The first is never a pen. He did exactly what he was supposed to do and kept his hands close to his body. The second is so debatable. On one hand, it is obviously impeding the ball his hand moves outward after the header.

I disagree with the notion that you can’t have an involuntary reaction to block the ball out of panic (even from that close). Having said that, I think he was trying to turn his body rather than block the ball. Very harsh.

Why would he? The rules on handballs are stupid and the vast majority of people don’t agree with them. Plus he was a defender.
