Cricket

I watched the closing stages of that ridiculous game at Taunton where Essex won by 1 wicket. They only needed 84 to win but slumped to 24-6, scraping home thanks to 29no from tubby Adam Rossington, on loan from Northants after he fell out with the new coach there. Craig Overton took 13 wickets in the match, which probably sums up the state of the pitch. Somerset would likely have won if they'd had a 3rd seamer after him and Siddle, but a half-fit Lewis Gregory was all they had.

Surely Somerset should be docked points for producing a sub-standard pitch.

Close of play : Kent 81-6, still trailing by 165. Another excellent day, and if it wasn't for Compton, who carried his bat in Kent's first innings, and is 20 not out in the second, the match might have been over.
