Absolutely abysmal 'effort' from Somerset. Everytime I check the score yet another wicket has gone down, a collapse of England propotions.

Scored nearly 400 in the first innings, yet batting like schoolboys in the second. They may as well hand the trophy to Warwickshire themselves at the end of play. No fight in them at all.

That Overton in the test matches is bog average bowler too.....

Jos Buttler: contributed nothing to Lancashire all season and couldn't even persuade his old teammates to show a bit of backbone on the last day of the season.

Warwickshire a decent team but a little fortunate to win it - I'd say Lancs and Notts have been better overall. Their highest batting average was a meagre 37.76 from Yates (who looks promising) while their bowling was led by the excellent Liam Norwell with 49 wickets at 18.26. It's probably their experienced bowling that has won it for them, most of them shrewd signings from other counties rather than home produced - Norwell and Miles from Gloucester, Briggs from Hampshire via Sussex, Rhodes, Hannon-Dalby, and Bressie-lad from Yawkshire, Stone, who didn't play much, from Northants.

Lancs v Warwick in the Bob Willis Trophy game to be played over 5 days at Lords next week. I can't summon up too much enthusiasm for it at the moment and I doubt the players from both sides can either.

Looks like Lancs definitely can’t summon up much enthusiasm. Lancs 21/6. Bit of a fight back after being 12/6. Can’t see it lasting 5 days. ???

Another in a long line of lunatic player decisions made by Hants starting when they failed to make Trevor Jesty captain and brought in the hapless Mark Nicholas. Briggs went from top young prospect to released in about a week.

Trevor Jesty -classy player, ended up at Lancs. Would have walked into the England team today.
Agreed. He was a Hants stalwart for years and was a logical choice for captain until they brought in All Talk Nicholas. So Jesty went first to Surrey and then (as you say) Lancs. Was a an Umpire for a good number of years as well.

Must have had a good pint last night, Lancs
Didn't bother watching. Not surprised Lancs getting hammered - but not to that extent!

Not sure if this fixture has any future. Already seen proposals it should be moved to pre-season, the equivalent of the Charity Shield, or to make it like the Sheffield Shield Final where the top two teams play off to be champions, making it more important than finishing top. That's ok if it's close like this year but not so much if a team finishes well clear at the top.

Thanks @BigMick Really good read, encouraging to see that it is a long term plan. Also fair comments on those who have left and the senior players who didn’t perform this year. The balance of the side does need improving and adding a couple more experienced pros along with Finn and Hudson-Prentice will help the youngsters improve next season.

The ashes tour now looks likely to be cancelled

England’s Ashes tour could be called off by the end of the week if enough players decide they do not want to go to Australia due to strict coronavirus rules.

After a presentation from Cricket Australia on Sunday evening, the players were given until the end of the week to decide their availability and the England & Wales Cricket Board confirmed in a statement it is not prepared to send a heavily-weakened team.

Should call it off tbh. They played world champions NZ with s heavily weakened team devoid of experience and lacking most of their best players and got hammered. Without Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer they're already weak enough so why repeat the NZ experience??

Last time they left out Stokes from an Ashes tour they got hammered and after this summer it's increasingly clear he's their most valuable star, one they can't do without
