Cricket

Live international T20 Cricket returns to the BBC this afternoon at 2.15, monsoon, rain and lightening permitting as it's in Manchester.

The second of the series where the experimental and largely unheralded England line up take on the far stronger Pakistan side. T20 though can often provide shocks, the shorter the format the more likely as a rule, and having the better of conditions or a few exceptional individual performances can even things out.

I presume England will have the same pathetically weak dross but in Banton have someone on a high and at last showing why he could be a contender for the first XI.

Why on earth Lewis Gregory is in the team is absolutely beyond me, he bats as high as seven but in his six international T20 matches so far he's scored a total of 23 runs at an average of 5.75. In addition he's hardly been used as a bowler at all delivering a mere four overs for 29, and with Jordan, Curran, Mahmood, Ali and Rashid on the spinning deck Old Trafford normally provides, he'll hardly be likely to have to bowl here either. Even his first class batting average is a highly unimpressive 21.78.

IPL starting on the 19th Sept, although there was a high number of cases for those involved yesterday. That could be new football season, NFL and IPL all starting within a week of each other. Sport heaven.

Pakistan 11-8 to win

I think a lot of bookies just look at the names of the sides and the head2head stats between them which are very one sided with England winning most of the time.

They pay far less attention to whether it's actually anything like a normal T20 eleven, and tbf the vast majority of punters are also inclined just to think England at home and normally win anyway.

The odds to me are totally unrealistic, I think it's not so much men against boys, although that too when experience is added up, but men against reserves.

Very one sided match likely for me although as I said the shorter the format the more one or two individuals could make all the difference. In a T20 there are no twists and turns, a bad period and you normally lose.

Either could then win but Pakistan very much odds on in my book.

You listen to Mr Banality himself Nick Sh*te previewing the game with Ebony Rainford-Brent providing the run down on the players and you'd be hard pressed to realise how many would actually be in a full strength line up - I make it just Bairstow, Morgan, Rashid and Jordan with Ali a probable second spinner, Tom Banton is trying to push for a place too. All the rest have virtually no chance which is more than half the side.

Lewis Gregory ....really, says it all

If he comes off - you heard it here first, I reckon he's a worldbeater

lol

I think Rashid the only one to come out of that with any credit, I really am struggling to see any of this side besides the obvious candidates..skipper Eoin Morgan, Bairstow, Rashid and probably Jordan (who has been injured and struggled) definitely making the first XI, which opens up another spinners spot in India. Ali is seriously struggling may even go without a second spinner if noone suitable.

How is Jordan still playing for England?

Apparently he has a fair amount of mitigation here as rushed back just nowhere near ready atm.

I've noted the broadcasters have sort of brushed under the carpet just how poor this experimental lineup is - it basically has very little chance at all and they were reluctant to make it clear to viewers in the ludicrous buildup.

This isn't anything like England's T20 line up coming up against a very decent outfit. The BBC team should have been far more realistic in their buildup as their viewers would expect far better.
