As in the earlier games against Ireland, Eoin seems less than happy at the prospect of competing once again with such a weakened team, perhaps trying to dampen down any unreasonable expectations especially with having to field such s side.

“I think this is another opportunity for guys who would potentially sit outside that 15 to try and present their best case moving forward for winter tours and the World Cup next year,” Morgan said. “Opportunities like this don’t come around very often.”

Morgan also warned that, after these three games against Pakistan, the time for experimentation would be almost over.

“One of the challenges between now and the World Cup next year is going to be getting our strongest team on the park as often as we can to define those roles. We will only know our strongest positions after we have guys achieving in those roles.

“I don't think we can have a scenario where we can play the majority of our games with a half-strength team and then expect to go into a World Cup as contenders when guys don't know their roles or haven't been familiarised with them.”

Just don't get it. They haven't played cricket for months, there's going to be no test matches for months, yet we play a weakened team while the next world cup is a T20 event. English cricket makes some brainless decisions.

Tbh it's not so much men against boys as men against reserves. The men won a good toss too -

No-brainer as to who'll walk it but no guide whatsoever to anything tbh. A moderate team would beat this XI

It's a shame England are fielding such an experimental side, people will think what's happened to them despite it being almost entirely a different team.

Malan did England a favour by running himself out.

You might want to suck back on that last sentence.

Not really he's useless as are the rest of the replacements bar Banton.

Tbh I don't see any of them breaking into the first XI bar perhaps Banton but he's got serious competition too.

I would think it'll be virtually a completely different side bar the skipper, Bairstow, and Rashid with possibly Moeen since it's in the subcontinent.

Possibly

As per Rob Key's points ...
.
Roy, Bairstow, Root, Morgan, Stokes, Buttler, Moeen, Jordan, Archer, Rashid, Wood or Woakes

Tbh you could say two from three of Moeen, Woakes and Wood with Moeen or Woakes at seven unless both play when 7 and 8.

If Buttler is the finisher but opening with him does mean tougher decisions further down as you can't see a Banton or Root as a 5 or 6 really

i see one place up for grabs, Joe Root or Tom Banton the favourites.

Looks as though that could be it for the first game. There maybe a window of around 90 minutes but around 3am or so.

What the f*** is Nick Sh*te on about 'let's hope there's some more cricket ..... (so Pakistan have f*** all to chase in five overs and win easily) is he on something or what ? - he just talks nonsense, full of banalities when he's not just hoping everyone does well and telling the viewer less than nothing, easily the worst commentator on cricket by such a long way that noone else even comes close.

Ben Stokes has admitted his "head wasn't really in" England's recent Test series with Pakistan after it was revealed his father Ged is suffering from brain cancer.

Stokes left for New Zealand - where his father and mother Deb live - after the first Test win over Pakistan earlier this month, with the England and Wales Cricket Board saying it was down to "family reasons".

The precise reason behind Stokes' departure was not made public at the time, but his father has told the New Zealand Herald that he was diagnosed with brain cancer in January.

"I didn't sleep for a week and my head wasn't really in it," England vice-captain Stokes told the Weekend Herald about his last Test appearance.

"Leaving [the team] was the right choice from a mental point of view."

Excellent, match abandoned, the best result we could have possibly hoped for considering the sides.

Nick Sh*te 'it's a shame really etc ...' - at least it gave him a chance to go into banality overdrive.
