Cricket

Great to see Anderson back to normal service yesterday. Got 5, should have had 8 had it not been for easy drops going down from Broad and Burns. World class bowler, and as I said the other day, first name on the team sheet for me, ahead of Broad.

Can't believe how long Anderson's been around.. I remember when he made his test debut as a wayward 20 year old with purple hair.
He's come a very long way since. England have been very lucky to have him.

Captains nowadays rarely enforce a follow on, it's the worst possible option and the bowlers don't normally find it as easy. Ricky Ponting would do whatever he could to bat again, even if runs were completely superfluous and not needed. It has so many disadvantages it's now only done as a last resort.

Lunch in the Roses match: Yorks 260 all out, Lancs 3-0.

Another mixed morning of bowling by Lancs but Danny Lamb, the most experienced of the inexperienced bowlers, finished with 23-6-55-4, while George Balderson was finally rewarded for some tight bowling when he picked up the final wicket to finish with 15-7-30-1. Earlier, Tom Bailey dismissed Lyth for an excellent 103.

Elsewhere, Ben Foakes finally emerged from the England bubble to score 118 in his first innings of the season as Surrey were bowled out for 278 by Kent.

The weather has now won two tests in a row. It was England's main opposition to recovering in the Windies series and has upped it's game massively since.

Weather two England one Pakistan nil

The way it's managed to follow the cricket around the country is just uncanny, glorious in the South while Manchester has its heatwave (rain most of the time) and now giving Southampton freakish bad weather (and light) while it's glorious up in the North-West (possibly excepting Manchester)

Lancs just lost their first wickets when that great player of spin, Keaton Jennings, was trapped lbw by the part-time off-spin of Adam Lyth for 23 - 108-1.

Alex Davies batting beautifully. 70no, and against a weakened bowling attack there's a 100 there for the taking. Can he maintain concentration?

For Yorkshire, Olivier has bowled far too short for this wicket, playing to Davies' strength.

As ever at Headingley, it's so much easier to bat when the sun is out. Weird place is Yorkshire.

I should add that Yorkshire have had enough of being ridiculed and allowed everyone to view the game, via their website or the Lancs one.

I absolutely hate Jennings. A totally pointless player.

By all accounts he's a nice enough lad, but he's miles away from being an England player at the moment, and last season too. Wouldn't be surprised if he succeeds Vilas as captain, depending on whether Vilas can play next season.

Lancs lost two quick wickets since tea: Bohannon caught down the legside off young tearaway quickie Warner - a bit unlucky. Yorkshire's best bowler, Patterson, then snaffled the key wicket of Davies, lbw playing across the line of a full ball - he scored 73. Jones and Vilas need to rebuild.
