Cricket

Proves that batting again even if you have the choice of enforcing is nearly always a good option. Most captains today will only enforce if there's absolutely no choice with time running out. Ponting pretty much hated enforcing and would probably bat again to give his bowler's a break even if mountains of runs ahead.

The old has-beens in the TMS studio would invariably enforce it every time and are always looking to declare the innings from virtually the first over too lol

Excellent win and a superb catch from Pope.

Selection headache ahead of the third game – balancing the series win vs fitness and looking ahead. I would like to see Jimmy, Broad, and Jofra all into the attack.

Hoping Windies play Cornwall
Still can’t get my head around a 22 stone professional cricketer but they say he doesn’t half give the ball a rip and is superb in the slips.

I like having Curran in the team as he gives something different plus creates tough for Bess

Just a quick comment on the umpires one good -Michael Gough and one again who had to rely on DRS to constantly overturn his decisions -Richard Illingworth.

At Southampton Illingworth and Kettlebrough came in for some raised eyebrows and perceived home bias comments, such were the number of overturned decisions in the Windies innings.

This time Richard Illingworth was struggling regardless of team and shown up by Michael Gough having a top game

(even the two England could have overturned had they reviewed just happened to be the unfortunate Illingworth as well. although it would be absolutely ridiculous to attach any blame on those occasions - the second Root decided against reviewing was that big 100 partnership too, they could and really should have broken it early on had they reviewed, they had enough reviews in the bank to really try for that)

I know it's a supposedly tough call but I think those three are extremely likely to play tbh, possibly Sam Curran will too but only if Stokes can't bowl. (if all pull up ok)

Woakes and Curran out and Anderson and Archer in are my thoughts - (even though the potentially omitted pair both played well). Possibly Jack Leach for Dom Bess too but Archer, Broad and Anderson are tailenders at test level and having another in Leach may be one too many.

Has Leach been injured mate?

Broad Archer Curran Stokes and Moeen my bowling line up for the next test.

I want plenty of variation. Very tough decision between Archer and wood and Jimmy and Curran but I want the left armer for balance if the wicket is going to be flat and dry. Wet weather will bring Jimmy into the equation. But Broad has to play.

What a brilliant record England have at Old Trafford since our controversial defeat to Pakistan on the ground back in 2001. Since then we've played 13 Tests up here winning 10 drawing 2 and losing only once. More of the same in the next one starting on Friday please.

With still being on furlough leave from work I watched it all today and enjoyed every minute. It's rarely boring watching this England team, and with Ben Stokes I believe we have the best cricketer in the world by a distance. I usually spend at least three days at any Manchester Test match so roll on the time fans can again watch this side live, as empty Test venues have become norm in some parts of the cricketing world, but not England.

I think he a bad problem in South Africa and struggled to get over it and build his strength back but available now. Tbh if Moeen is available he must be the better option imo. Batting strength is secondary but we're likely to have three real tailenders (at test level) in Archer, Broad and Anderson and really could do without a fourth if he's up to the bowling job.
