Cricket

Every time the top order provides a fairly good platform, the middle/Lower order never capitalises, yet whenever we start off poorly ie 50/4 that lower midfle order gets a lot more runs, its always one or the other

It's a really young side for England, and they clearly have half an eye on the future. It would have been easy to stick to Broad, Ali, Woakes et aland get a win, but you feel the experience they are giving the younger players is benefiting them. To me, they would probably win this game had Root played, and putting him in for Denly makes a big difference to this tea. It's not perfect, but in Burns, Sibley and Crawley around him you feel there is a really solid top 3 who will only get better.

I've been a bit advocate of both Wood and Archer playing. To me we need to keep both fit and get them to Austrlia. Wood was upwards of 95mph in the firest innings. He won't get enormous rewards in England but could be lethal in Australia (as he was in SA). You feel it's a big day for them both tomorrow, along with Stokes. Hopefully Bess can keep control at one end and then can really exploit the up and down nature of the pitch.

As for the West Indies, it's brilliant to see such a talented team arrive. They look a very competent team to me. A very good, and varied attack, each of them a bit different but talented. You think Oshane Thomas was left behind and it gives you an idea of the depth they have. Likewise, you think how good could they have been had Archer decided to represent the West Indies with that attack. They had a bit of a glut for a time, but it looks as if they are producing some very good cricketers again.

Alongside the above, no Russell and Pollard really hurts them. I mean for those who don't follow cricket both of them are very similar to Stokes as batting allrounders. If they had their strongest team they could probably bat to 9 and have a strong 5 pronged pace attack. I also think Holder captains them very well, he's a very articulate, thoughtful and intelligent captain and a real credit to them.

It's been a really good match, and the West Indies are big favourites, but England will be hoping either Wood or Archer can have a bit of a flourish with the bat (they are capable) maybe get another 30 runs on the board and then bowl well. Looking forward to it, and looks a proper series!
