Another brilliant decision from Root, fielding first. You’ve got to look at the pitch history at a particular ground, not just the situation on day one. England’s record chasing in the 4th innings is poor, so why do it? Did he think we were going to rack up 400? Not with this batting line up, at least 2 passengers in the top 6.

Root’s field placings do my head in. I don’t care that third man is not flavour of the month anymore, the fact is that loads of runs are conceded down there, Sky never seem to mention it, love to see the run stats. Take the man from fine leg, anything flicked down there is bad bowling anyway. And what was that when Archer bowled to vd Dussen without any slips? ffs. Lose this series and Root will have to go as captain.
