Cricket

Feel for Joffra Archer. He's bowled something like 80+ overs in this series - more than any other Englishman - and only taken two wickets to date!! Joe Root and the English management need to look after him a bit better than that. If they keep over-bowling a fast bowler like that, with the inevitable strain on his body, he'll be lucky to still be playing international cricket beyond 30.

His pace is well down too...

Williamson and Taylor both reach their centuries, the rain has now arrived, think that will be that for the test.

Little 'ole New Zealand take the test series over our former colonial oppressors 1-0.

What a boring test this has been, and I love test cricket.

To be fair, the game could have been vastly different in NZ's favor if Taylor hadn't dropped Burns at the end of day two when England were already not much for two down. And the game could have been different in England's favor if Stokes hadn't dropped Latham early on in his innings on day one.

The pitch defo favored batting of course, but you can't say neither team didn't have chances.

Agree mate, and I don't know enough about that pitch to say otherwise.
The lack of a quality spinner in a game like this stands out.
You were spot on about Archer being over bowled, and that stands on the skipper for me.

Pitch defo could have been better for sure (i.e. a bit more in it for the bowlers).

Farewell England and best of luck for the South Africa tour.

Wish I was good enough to be a professional cricketer haha. Getting paid well to chase the sun around the world doesn't seem to be a bad job. A bit tough on the player's families though I imagine.
I've played against a few test players back in the day in the Liverpool Comp.
This was before 20/20 etc and they would go and be a pro for a local team.
Playing for a few quid in their pockets, free digs and free beer in the clubhouse.
(I have taken the wicket of a test player as well.)

Yeah played a bit of cricket growing up in NZL. Made a few local age group rep teams; and the odd name I remember playing with / against when I was 16 or 17 have gone on to first-class and international cricket.

Cricket becomes a tough game to play though when you leave school (unless you're a pro, of course) - it's so time-consuming; and when you're young the weekends are needed to earn a wedge and socializing.

I played far too much as a teenager.
We had a dream team of lads in the youth sides and we won everything. That leads you to then be playing for men's teams in the evenings and weekends. My knees have been knackered for years.

A feature for me of these two tests was the all too predictable struggle of the new men in the side.

It didn't take long for NZ to work out Sibley's legside bias with his bottom hand closing the face, and although it's ridiculous to reach any conclusion on Crawley he was surely taken only for experience and the hope that one day he may be a serious contender.

Unfortunately the battle to find a partner for Burns is far from over, there's even talk of Jennings for SL In a horses for courses short term (SL only) fix. The opening batter and number three remain the problem although Sibley hopefully will be adapt as Burns himself did.

Playing across to the legside with a strong bottom hand isn't something that will stop him developing into a test opener but as with Burns, he'll need to recognise the balls outside off stump that leave him vulnerable, especially to lbw if there's any movement towards the front pad or nicking off if there isn't.

On a brighter note Pope has made some real progress and should be eying up making the number six position his own. Bairstow or more likely Buttler to take the gloves again.
