With Williamson gone and NZ still 209 behind with six middle and later order wickets left, England hold a very definite advantage.

Henry Nichols and the keeper Watling can add a few and de Grandhomme can be dangerous but Santner and tail shouldn't be feared.

England need to establish a lead and take it on. NZ are batting last when the wicket should give some unpredictable and uneven bounce with turn for Leach.

Jack Leach should be promoted up the order, he's certainly looked far more capable than the rest of the tail. Sam Curran is a dangerous bat who didnt come off here but Leach could come in straight after at 9, with Archer 10 and Broad 11. Possibly not three number elevens as Leach has some form now.

Pope and Stokes were out playing shots they needn't have done as they weren't getting bogged down but perhaps could have shown more caution, especially Pope with not as much batting to come.

With Curran falling England have a very long tail so Leach was needed for Buttler to prosper.

(Buttler may have been deceived by Santner being off the pitch when the bowler ran up and then hopping on again just before he hit it in the air to him. He should know where the fielders are (or could be in this case when he hits the ball) but the fielders should be in position when the bowler turns to run in and not suddenly appear afterwards.)
