Poor Scotland, after their travails in football's euro qualifying and the debacle of their early exit from rugby's world cup comes the cricket...

In the T20 finals qualfying competition, Scotland, like Ireland, have high hopes of reaching the finals. But whereas Ireland made a supremely confident start, comprehensively seeing off Hong Kong by 8 wickets, poor Scotland lost their opening game to tiny minnows Singapore (tiny even relatively speaking).

Sadly the ICC T20 world cup 2019 qualifying tournament isn't going to plan for either Ireland or Scotland.

Scotland opened up as posted with an embarrassing loss to Singapore before recovering with a good win against Kenya and coming out on top by a waifer thin 4 runs against Papua New Guinea only to then lose again to Namibia.

Ireland by contrast opened up confidently by hammering Hong Kong before getting hammered themselves by United Arab Emirates. They recovered with a big win vs Oman before losing out decisively to Canada. The Canadians best win ever in their history.

Ireland are fourth out of seven in group B but only ahead of UAE on run rate as three teams are level on four points. The head to head will but UAE ahead if only them and Ireland are level on points at the finish. Their skipper reckons they're now dependant on other results going their way.

Scotland are third in group A on run rate but 2nd to 6th are all on level points, Namibia and Singapore who both beat Scotland are behind on run rate only because too many are level on points for the h2h to place them above Scotland.
