Just messing around having a look at the squad I'd pick for Tuesday.

I reckon Denly will go for Dawson (obvious imo) as not as good a bat as Vince and isn't a bowler at all really

Tough on Willey but I think he could be the one to make way too - watch him get a fivefer now to really make it difficult.

My 11 would be Roy, Bairstow, Root, Morgan, Stokes, Buttler, Ali, T.Curran, Rashid, Archer, Wood.

with Plunkett, Woakes, Dawson and Vince making up the 15

(toss up between Woakes and Tom Curran to start)

Listened to all of the arguments and I can't decide who I would leave out of the squad. Not a huge fan of Plunkett lately but apparently he's taken more wickets in the middle overs than any other bowler. Unbelievably difficult decision.

I'd probably leave out Woakes. He's in bad form, looks short of pace and Curran is batting and bowling better than him. I like Curran. I like both Currans in fact. Got something about them.

Like I said, they can't make the wrong decision. Saw somebody on BBC suggesting rashid shouldn't be picked because denly or Root can bowl a bit haha he only has about 45 more wickets than any other English player since the world cup.

My worry is there a need to have all 3 of archer, wood and plunkett. I would like Willey with his variation, but these last two games have shown Curran and woakes need to be in the team, all 3 are practically all rounders. I'm not a big fan of Dawson, but we need a backup spinner just in case, can't have denly bowling.

I don't think vince has done enough to get in, he's still never scored a hundred for England, he just doesn't get big scores internationally.

So nailed on are :
Roy
Bairstow
Root
Morgan
Stokes
Buttler
Moeen
Rashid
Archer (imo)

So then it's who's your next 6?

Curran, wood, woakes, Willey, denly, plunkett

I'd go with tbh, I'd take the risk with not needing dawson, you'd never trust him to bowl 10 anyway, so you'd just play four seamers

Hales would clearly have been the reserve batsman, head and shoulders above the others.

In his self enforced absence, the choice is Vince or Denly.

Denly has been short changed a little by not opening in this series but Vince for me is just the more fluent and natural substitute.

A 30 or 40 is all he's ever going to offer but it usually comes in good time and with apparent ease, he always gets out which points to a ramprakash fault line with his temperament, but I would far rather have him than the unfortunate Denly.

Denly seems to be a figure who, at least in the white ball game, may or may not offer you 10/15 runs but not particularly quickly and he just can't be considered a bowler, therefore he isn't competing with Dawson at all for me but with Vince for the substitute batting place.

Denly isn't any sort of substitute if Ali or Rashid get injured, Dawson in fine form for Hampshire, definitely is.

Denly's chances of competing for that number three spot in the Ashes would be far better served by returning to his county side rather than waiting on the sidelines during a world cup he would be highly unlikely ever to play in imo.
