Were 35pence, now 89pence. People going mad cos what was a 50 pence packet of pasta has hit 95 pence. peas nearly 3 times the cost, pasta nearly double.
What is also incredible is rubbish no taste 'white fish' is now more expensive than what cod and haddock used to be, and cod and haddock are more expensive than what fillet steak used to be, and a fillet steak...
No one is feeding fish and diesel costs have come all the way back down. To much pish taking!
70p at the Asda. You get loads of mushy peas, enough for at least five meals at least, just freeze 'em. Sainsbury's frozen cheap white fish (probably Coley) is not bad at all. Usually get five fillets for around £2.50. I make breaded fish fingers, about 15, well worth it.

Now a doubling cost for basic ingredients such as pasta, im sure survival of the fittest crowd will be along to tell us how to farm seaweed and make pasta from it very soon.

Well if you can't pull yourself up by your bootstraps because you're lazy, try using them as spaghetti alternatives and as they're already soft ... no need to boil!

It doesnt. If you know how. I personally reckon thats a major reason why folk go convenience. Cos anyone who can cook, knows the time difference between the two is miniscule. Microwave nothwithstanding. (And you cannot really cook a family meal in one).

If I CBA, I would happily show anyone who wants to know, how to cook tons of healthy meals for 2uppence. That is not a critique of folk who go convenience, far from it, My elderly Mum does, cos, "Why bother Mark?" Hard to argue with that.

Its not celebrity chef stuff, its being told the absolute basics, and from that, confidence grows.
Stewing beef, some carrots, onions, garlic and you have the basis of either a nice stew or a curry depending on your taste. Feed family for well under a tenner. I usually comfortably get a second dinner for myself from it the following day - tastes even better as flavours have really concentrated.

Mrs BR a bit more fussy and will do something different.

Stir fries - chicken, beef (use steak quality or too tough) pork, done in minutes. Rice or noodles and you have a very cheap and healthy meal.
