Current Affairs Cost of living…

Was out yesterday and never seen my high street so busy. People must have high levels of disposable income still. Or it’s going on the CC.

The high streets where I live, (Widnes lol) are made of mainly empty, boarded up shops and Charity shops. Don't know about any other smaller towns, though I imagine the likes of Liverpool, Manchester etc are doing a log better.

Reading horror stories on here of £10/£15/£20 per day and with my smart meter showing a daily charge of £2.50-£3.00 all winter, can energy companies take retrospective action here and retrospectively bill me as they've clearly been undercharging me?

Yes, we got smacked with a massive retrospective bill, a few years back.

Take meter readings now, phone them and explain that you think they’ve got it wrong and give them the readings.

If you do owe them, legally they have to work out a payment plan, if you can‘t afford to clear it one go.

Appreciate the advice.

It would feel unfair because the smart meter is telling me the figure of £3 daily on average, which is affordable. If it was actually £10/£15 per day then I wouldn't be using the heating half as much.

Thanks mate.

Check it mate.
I looked at the fellas next door pensioner , didn't have a clue how to go online ect.
He was well overpaying.
Think he had something like £1700 in credit when I sent the actual figures in

Bloody hell.

The meter is matching my bills. And as an example my bill for G&E last month was £8 and the month before was £17 (after £60 rebate). Heating on at 6am and off at 10pm for the past month as I work remote. So obviously keen for the benefit to continue but worried about getting a couple of grand bill land on me.

I suppose if the worst happens and they realise and send the big bill, I can negotiate a payment plan. It might be worth the risk as I'm out of country in six months. So keep quiet until then and hope for the best.

How long do you have it on?

I’ve set mine to an eco mode and I’m hoping, by some miracle I’m not gonna be charged the earth.

I think you can safely say, that they’ve got it wrong with your meter.

We have ours on for 6 hrs a day and we’re nearly hitting 15 a day, with the leccy on top.
