Bloody hell.

The meter is matching my bills. And as an example my bill for G&E last month was £8 and the month before was £17 (after £60 rebate). Heating on at 6am and off at 10pm for the past month as I work remote. So obviously keen for the benefit to continue but worried about getting a couple of grand bill land on me.

I suppose if the worst happens and they realise and send the big bill, I can negotiate a payment plan. It might be worth the risk as I'm out of country in six months. So keep quiet until then and hope for the best.
Even before all these massive price increases, I think we paid more per day to heat the house up for a good few hours a day than you're doing now.

Not to want to worry you, but I suspect you're under paying.

Roughly working out from the smart meter:

8 hour slow cooker £1.75/£2.00
90 minute oven £0.80p
1 hour of heating + TV £0.13p

For sure underpaying.

I'm sure it'll catch up with me, though.

Why is, let's say 12 quid a day a lot of money for gas and electricity?
It's winter.

Let's say you spend on average 12 quid for 120 days in winter.
And on average 8 for the remaining 245.

That's 3400 a year or 280 a month.

That's high but still okayish, right? Or am I seeing something wrong?

Because prices have more than doubled in over a year, yet the companies producing the energy have made record profits nearly every quarter.

It’s incomparable.

It’s due to go up even more throughout next year as well.

I consider myself lucky as I fixed August 2021 for 2 years but pre that, average annual bill was between 900 and 1200 per annum, we didn't skimp in winter either. Now my bill this year even on fixed deal will be near 2k per annum, so not quite double and this is being sensible with less heating hours.

Bear in mind how much everything else has gone up, it's a perfect storm for a lot of people, crippling household economies massively.

So when you put it all together, it is a huge issue.

Yeah.
That is a ridiculous amount for energy and puts the majority of people into fuel poverty when 10% of their wages go on energy.
It's a cash grab plain and simple. The war was just the excuse the companies needed to bang up the price.
There is no justification for it.
Add on higher food bills, higher interest rates meaning higher mortgage rates, increase in tax, council tax rises etc etc and you can see plain and simple the average person is getting screwed.

I think it's because people aren't used to it mate. We've been very lucky to have very low energy prices for beards I'd suggest.

A lot of things all going up at once. Folk perhaps don't have too much fat to trim finance-wise. I've got mates on sick benefits who are really struggling.
