Got the same dilemma with clothes. Tumble dryer or dehumidifier running. If I air dry them without the dehumidifier I do get mold and damp. Our smart meter isn’t playing ball at the moment, so I’ll have to do an online meter reading to measure our gas and electricity usage.
I suspect December and January will surge our usage and, alas, the monthly bill, but February onwards should average it out to something acceptable.
My wife keeps having the tumble dryer on, which is devouring electricity, but then again clothes need to dry and it means the gas is used less.
In some respects it's not gas prices that have me worried, its electricity. Especially looking at the Jan price cap leap. I posted elsewhere there's an argument that altering how electricity prices are determined would make life an awful lot better for people:
Electricity prices dictated by gas producers who provide less than half of UK electricity
Natural gas is the main driver of electricity prices across Europe confirms research published by UCL. Despite gas providing under half of the total electricity in the UK, in recent years it set electricity costs 84% of the time.
