That is my understanding as well but think they have even skipped the animal testing on one of the vaccine trials.

I suppose another challenge will be developing a vaccine that is universally effective. I can't recall the exact stats, but I remember reading that many drugs on the market are kinda useless to many people (with some being actively harmful). It's actually quite rare to get a treatment that works the same way for everyone, and as the symptoms for this seem to vary so much from person to person, it seems unlikely (in my uneducated opinion) that a vaccine would work for the entire population. It would perhaps be sensible for scientists to work on one that is effective for the most vulnerable, but I don't know if it works like that tbh.

So, looking at the report, their best estimate for the UK is 2.7% ( on the 28th ), with a range of 1.2 to 5.4%.

If it's something like 2.7%, then that's a positive compared to previous estimates. That'd be something like 1.5 million people.
Yeah, much lower population infected than previous ranges although that initial reproduction number of around 3.87 [3.01-4.66] is going to be a concern on how we manage opening up going forward.

Edit this is the table for those who don't want to trawl through the whole report
