Do NHS staff have to pay to park at their place of work normally??? Wtf? Can someone give me some idea of how much please. That's scandalous. I'm guessing the senior staff will have free reserved parking?

It depends on the location I guess. The problem with hospitals etc is there is no street parking around the hospital either so you cant even park a few streets away and walk.

I used to do audits for the NHS at various sites and I must have spent loads of my working day and wages just finding and paying for parking.

Exactly. I've never forgotten that advert back in the 80s for some overpriced frippery or other which encouraged purchase "because you're worth it" in the honeyed voice of the snake oil salesman! It could be a motto for the I Want It Now generation.

Wasn't just the 80s! That attitude has pervaded society right through since then and up to now.

Maybe people will begin to realise humanity is not omnipotent or in total control of this beloved planet despite, or perhaps because of how dreadfully we have behaved as its "steward".

It all depends on the links you're posting. Links can be political, apparently. I've maintained from the beginning that this supersedes politics. Doesn't help when posters like yourself have intentionally brought politics into it. Don't wash your hands now mate.
Evidence please before you start chucking stones

Am I the only one who gets a bit aggravated by footballers joining campaigns to raise money from the public ?

The latest one involving Andros Townsend. He’s joined a campaign trying to raise £100,000

Look in your own back pockets you morons. If every player in the Prem donated 10% of their weekly wage it would raise £2.5m per week ffs !
It’s especially galling given that their wage is protected by their contracts and their intangible balance sheet value, whilst the rest of the nation is facing being furloughed, laid off or let go.

Yet here they are appealing to those very people to dig deep, whilst they sit there taking their full wage.

Forgive my stupidity and if this has already been discussed.

Once social distancing has ended, how does this all end? How does the coronavirus just disappear?

No questions are stupid.

Honestly it might be that, we have re-occurring waves. Social distancing may become the norm until an effective vaccine is found. Or "herd immunity" occurs.

What is likely to happen is that, life will get back to a semblance of normal, once folks start following government guidelines, which to be fair is happening.

It is essential right now that healthcare professionals receive everything they need. The political discussions are just hot air. What matters is providing the means to defeat this virus to the people on the front line.

We may have to approach the virus the way we approach the flu, yearly vaccinations etc...People all over the world from all nations, are working on this, It will be defeated but the world as we knew it, will be changed.

You got triggered by my references to social justice warriors and then started referencing some bloke called Shapiro. Whoever that is. The bottom line here is, China has banned foreigners. I agree. We should have taken that step back in January.

Instead what happened is. Folks were branded racist and xenophobic. That hysterical labeling is undermining our democracy, because it is intolerant of people who have a different point of view.

Our societies are literally based upon debate, if we lose that. We lose everything.

Some people can't help themselves and find it difficult to put their political leanings (well jostling) on the back burner for a while during this crisis.

A friend of mine, who is a nurse, ranted on social media that Boris shouldn't be clapping at NHS because of what happened in parliament two years ago.

Grass... greener...

My wife went to our local Aldi yesterday and had a completely different scenario: one member of staff wiping down all trolleys; no money need to open them.

They had removed all baskets as well, to ensure that they could manage the cleaning process, which she thought was a really sensible precaution.

You'd hope that the supermarkets would have a common policy towards this, but perhaps they aren't there yet or simply don't have the staff to currently cope.

I know Tesco in Old Swan have employed people who've recently been laid off to marshal parking, clean the trolleys and help ensure social-distancing is upheld.
In the ideal world I'd like everyone to pull together etc etc but that's not going to happen. I accept people want to vent off as is their right. I just wish they would do it in the thread that has been set up for that purpose where people of a like mind can congregate

With all the Barbers shut I had a go at trimming my own fringe this morning, it was too long and getting in my eyes all the time...job done.

My memory is not what it was but the only Shapiro I've ever heard of is Helen. I really think you have the wrong guy but if you link the incriminating post I'll gladly hold my hands up.

I would thing the anger will only grow. Reading about Barca yesterday asking the players to take a pay cut and them refusing. Now going from £200-400,000 per week down to £100-200,000 per week is not exactly going on the breadline. There may well be a few bubbles pricked by the end of all this....

We have to wait for Italy, numbers and news from China and Iran don't make sense (basically, they are lying)

Italy is ahead of the rest of the World about 2 weeks, every projection and actions were taken in Italy should start showing results now, they should peak now and start going down, I have no idea what's next if things don't calm down in Italy in the next 2 weeks, but if things slow down and start improving, based on whats happening there, the rest of the World will adjust.

Check this out: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/italy/ both new cases and deaths have been consistent for the past 7 days, not going up but not going down which is logical (lock-down stopped the community spread but activated the domestic spread since families are sharing houses and one infected is infecting the whole household)

Perfect coronavirus job for Brexit voters.

Do it for Britain!
I own a 1000 acre farm, have a business model that doesn't work without really cheap labour, help me please, or I may have to sell it to lots of people who will make it work and feed the nation!
