Those vids of what is (supposedly) going on / has been going in China are very worrying. Had seen one of the clips a few weeks back from someone in Wuhan. The others are new. I can't link it on here but it's bodies in the street/massive convoys of trucks spraying God knows what into the air/body on a bench in public with people just walking past. It's crazy.

Again, not even the virus. Anyone with sense can see the Chinese gov are lying about the deaths and infection rate. But just the fact that the rest of the world is following their example... Crashing the global economy and putting populations under house arrest (I know we're not there yet) in the process.

It's absolutely daft when you think about it - just the entire situation. And all under the reasoning of 'protecting old / vulnerable people' when these governments across the world hardly ever prioritise that group.
I think what is motivating most is not wanting their entire healthcare system to crash like Northern Italy‘s has sadly done.

Govt already back tracking over self testing kits made available to the general public.

Something stinks about all this...

over 400,000 volunteering to support the already superhuman efforts from the NHS. To the bellend on here whittling on 'blitz spirit' no longer existing and using every excise under the sun to have a go at different generations or nationalities, you can stick that in your pipe you beaut. Wonderful effort
Excellent return indeed and I'm slightly surprised by the huge number given my wife's experience this afternoon.

Now don't take this as gospel as technology is not my wife's forte, and neither is application completion for that matter. But she went on to the government website this afternoon to volunteer our services, and she said that you needed an enhanced DBS certificate less than 12 months old. As it happens we both have one, but then they wanted her to upload it onto the application, which quite frankly neither myself nor my wife knew how to do. We don't have a printer so couldn't scan it.

So we gave up on that one and spent the next hour wondering why they are insisting on recent enhanced DBS certificates when they needed these volunteers urgently.

However, having now seen these numbers I'm wondering now whether my missus was mistaken and that they weren't insisting on DBS holders, just wanting to know who had them so they deploy them appropriately.

I think we have to be careful here when it comes to saying who this virus effects.

Of course, anyone at all, any age, can get it.

It's who it effects badly (as in, need the hospital/ICU bad) - and in the main (there are of course exceptions) it will be people with weakened immune systems (either through age, underlying health issues or lifestyle - i.e. smoking, heavy drinkers - basically, anything which weakens your immune system). It is the same as any virus/bug in that sense.

Just seeing a lot of people (not you @LinekersLegs) using examples of people in the 'prime' of their lives getting it as some show of how serious it is.

We know it's serious but nobody has said it won't infect people who are of all ages/health. It's just if you're in the younger/fitter bracket, you're gonna be likely to have a stronger immune system.

Also read that in terms of research they think it may impact people with blood type A worse than others, though it's unknown why and obviously it's just a theory atm. They're also looking into genetics and if there's any certain deficiencies the virus targets which could be an explanation for why the odd, super-fit 20-30 yr old (i.e. Charlie Austin) gets it and gets knocked out flat by it (albeit still not ICU level).

Most people who have definitely had it or had all the symptoms describe it as 2-3 days of being completely out of it, and then 2 days of easing off before being pretty much back to normal.

Tbf, I don't have an inherent distrust of our government's policy now.

But it's just the entire situation and the ramifications of it and the reasons being given.

I probably sound like a nutjob but it's just so, well, bizarre.

The world has changed in a matter of weeks. I said yesterday it's like social-coding and it really is. It shows how quickly an entire population can be made to just do something out of well, fear... God knows.

Herd immunity has rightly been disregarded because it's too far along... but it really does seem the governments and WHO (who aren't blameless in this, they did little to push China for info early on) are seemingly following the lead of a nation which, simply put, might as well be on a different planet sometimes. There is no information coming out that should be trusted as reliable yet our governments are collectively basing their ways of treating it on that?

Hundreds of thousands must have died from this thing in China. Especially when you consider their overall population, living conditions in a lot of the massively polluted cities etc.

Their factories are certainly back up and running (my uncle runs a clothing label and their factory close(ish) to Wuhan is now back up and operational - not that it matters now like) but the damage and cost to life must be extraordinary.

Plus, there has been confirmed cases as far back as November on this. Travel wasn't shut down until what, mid-to-late January??

No other reason to be pulling people right now surely? If the instruction is only workers can be out then I'd imagine there is a fair few on the road , much less on the bus.

Police could pull 100 people a day and they could all be workers. Compared to night time when theoretically you should have much less traffic.
Utility services and taxis are still on the road, with their type of vehicles quite often used by criminals. You also have people travelling to help their family etc.

Crime doesn't stop for anyone and any advantage will be taken, so you have examples of drugs, money or illicit goods being moved because they'll feel safer.

Don't get me wrong, there will also be the side of prevention where people travelling unnecessary will be challenged, but is it worth their own health?

If they were stopping cars, it is usually based on intelligence rather than any overt prevention technique.

Having seen the amount of our usual criminals in store absolutely fuming they can't buy their cheap pay as you go 'burner' mobile phones, I wish I'd stocked up on them.
I would have had no moral issue making a few quid out of those.
