I still don't buy the high death rate. I think there is way more mild illness that is unidentified. Finally verdict will be closer to flu fatality rate - my somewhat educated guess.

Not going to scroll through tens of pages, but what are your thoughts on the suspected "in the wild" spreading of Covid19 in Washington for weeks? And should we presume that other states are/will soon be spreading in the wild in the same way?

I can understand why CDC is not willing to update daily based on 50 states + DC reports of presumptive cases (which states even have any clue what's going on?) but do you suspect/know that some have a clearer idea of how the disease is spreading or does nobody have any clue?

Finally, I guess I should buy trip insurance for any flights I'm booking?

Horses were out of the barn weeks ago.
It is in the wild. Because we weren't testing more broadly, we have likely missed the chance to keep outbreaks somewhat localized. Probably have also missed the chance to prevent it becoming endemic.

I think the issue from a healthcare provider stand point is we all know it is out there. The only reason we don't have more "known" cases in the US is because we have had VERY limited testing criteria and thus very few tested. Still do tbh.

Traditionally state health depts/hospitals/clinics follow CDC guidance so when we don't get it, we are stuck unable to take the next step in planning. We are about a month behind in our response because it was being downplayed or flat bungled. Have no idea why CDC turned down WHO testing kits.

To be clear - I don't think this is Spanish flu level annihilation and there's no need to panic, but people will die that didn't have to, people will miss work and get big medical bills because we weren't prepared or because "its not any different than the flu"

CDC isn't updating testing/cases because testing was nearly non-existent. Under 500 people nationwide had been tested when they cut off reporting it.
Testing is being done at health depts so it would still be easy to collect the data. We manage it with flu.

I have heard that if booking a trip now, cancellation due to the coronavirus wouldn't be covered by trip insurance because it is now "known".

Graham Southall is quoted in The Times today as saying that all this washing hands is no good in tackling the corona virus, He said everyone should wear gloves. When he played for Everton, he always wore gloves and didn't catch anything.
