Some of the people worrying have likely just got the regular flu but no testing means no-one knows for sure and any potential clusters aren’t being stopped early.

Yeah, primary clinics are going to tell you to stay home. They could do flu testing, but they probably don't have the personal protective equipment for staff so if it's not flu, the clinic is going to have close because the staff is quarantined after possibly being exposed.

Well by extension of that logic, pretty much every large shopping centre will have more than 5000 folk at the weekend. Pretty much every mainstream professional sport will have more than 5000 at them. And every single arena concert/stand up event will as well.
Lob in the few companies who have work forces circa that, you kinda move into the "slight over reaction" space.
Err, can’t the CDC collate the numbers from each state each morning and post them? Aren’t they getting that data anyway, to have handle on the situation across the country?

Being a report program writer I can easily answer this. We call it an X71 where the value exceeds the format so the display will just show ####. Like Chernobyl and the amount of radiation output they don't want to know the real number so they just left it blank.

I dont think it is over reaction.
Most shopping centres wont have 5k people in them all at once. Massive malls might. Shut them down. Why wait for it to happen?
We just need to scale everything down in order to slow this thing up.
The time for a big state response is now. The needs of the individual mean nothing under these circumstances. People's "right" to shop and watch footy in a stadium. Pfffft.
And I thought I was looking at this response with a skeptical and depressed eye!

Just came from our clinic update.
It's a cluster. Still will only be sending patients with symptoms that have traveled to China, Italy, South Korea for testing - because we aren't being told otherwise.
Isolate at home and notify the health dept is the current plan.
We have a limited number of N95 masks and all are on backorder

Haven’t run the exact numbers but the % of negative tests coming back seem to be going up as well.
Might be a statistical blip but with luck S Korea might be getting a handle on their outbreak...
I still don't buy the high death rate. I think there is way more mild illness that is unidentified. Finally verdict will be closer to flu fatality rate - my somewhat educated (and hopeful) guess.
