so that trades would be able to do things like repair pipes / fix loos or washing machines and so on

Yeah, makes perfect sense in hindsight. Just hadn’t considered how important B&Q is, but 100% essential on reflection.

Nice hollowing out of social care provisions by the Tories with this emergency COVID bill going through parliament never miss an opportunity to put the boot into the most vulnerable.

They'll blame those needing care next for their mistakes and dithering. Johnson's lackadaisical attitude was not was needed at this time of need. His inaction is all to evident.

Britain had a head start on Covid-19, but our leaders squandered it

hosepipes yes, new kitchens I would imagine no unless you are going to cart them home and install them yourself
What I mean is, there will be plenty of people going there for non-essentials just because it’s the only ‘superstore’ open. My mother-in-law has already said she’s going to choose her new kitchen - don’t get me started there; mid seventies, former chronic chest conditions

Those bits will probably be closed - Boots has shut its perfume etc counters, so the only bit open will be the pharmacy and soap / shower gel bits (I think).

You would probably still be able to buy a bath, sink or loo though, just not the whole designing it thing.

This is true, loads of people stuck at home, loads of DIY and home improvement going on.

If I wasn’t so sensible, I’d pop to B&Q for some turf, compost and garden fence paint. Needed doing for at least 6 months.
