Only seeing this. I have an LLB from Trinity College Dublin but I didn't study Labour Law. However I was a union representative all of my Civil Service career.

He needs to get a GP cert in. Serious mistake to say he feels ok. This virus takes its time and is very transmissible. People may think they are fine and then they are hammered when they think they are grand.
I too am a long standing Union Rep.
A case 2 weeks a go , a lad comes in says he's positive on a Lateral flow asks what should he do.
Company says stay in work if you feel fine , consequently infects 3 other staff that go off sick feeling really lousey.( Obviously costing the company money.
After a series of meetings.
We put it to the company it is not acceptable they are not providing a "duty of care" to its employee's.
Company realise this & its now policy to send anyone for a PCR , if possitive they stay away for 6 days.
The govt just washed their hands on this which is every bit as bad as all the cock ups they've made throughout this pandemic.

If an employer does not recognise a medical cert particularly during a pandemic they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

Very true.
There'll be many legal case's due to this.

The feeling we got was they where worried folks would fake the Lateral flow for some time off , hence the more reliable PCR. And of course providing a duty of care .
It was a sensible outcome tbf.
Lets hope Lou's lads employers think the same.

Interesting statistics posted by the ONS that show the total number of deaths where COVID-19 was the only cause mentioned on the death certificate. This means deaths with no comorbidities.

Total Deaths: 6183
Total Deaths as % of Population: 0.0091%

Total Deaths Over 65s: 4994 (80.7%)
Total Deaths 30 - 64: 1166 ( 18.85%)
Total Deaths under 30: 23 (0.37%)

For reference I tried to find some data on influenza and pneumonia. The latest data set I could find was for 2020 (January - August), where 14,013 died of influenza or pneumonia.

So in your opinion, what is the significance of this data.

In 8 months the flu and Pneumonia have killed 2.4x more people than all the people that have died during the whole covid19 pandemic. These are facts straight from the ONS

In my opinion, looking at the data, the reaction to covid was extremely over the top.

I will fire the question back to you, what is your opinion of this data?

Very few people die from the flu on its own.
How many of those flu deaths involved some other affliction?

We can now say the same about Covid.
But why did you not represent the data for flu deaths in the same manner? what you have represented isn't comparable.

Do you seriously think the flu is a more harmful virus for society than the coronavirus? More than hree times more harmful according to your misrepresented figures

The verbiage the ONS uses in both cases is slightly different. If you looked at the link I provided, it states that the 14,013 deaths comes from 'Number of death occurrences where influenza and Pneumonia were the underlying cause of death'. I interpret this as, these people were relatively healthy until they contracted the illness.

It does not say anything about, 'tested positive for influenza & pneumonia within 28 days of death' which is how covid deaths were reported.

I did not say it is more harmful I only really included the flu figures for some sort of reference. My point is more, based on the above data covid is clearly not as deadly as we were all led to believe.

2022 and utter bellends are still comparing it to the flu.

You've quite clearly stated you believe flu and pneumonia have killed over twice as many people in half the time of the pandemic. Its conspiracy theory nonsense lapped by Charlie mushroom and his ilk.
