Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Your presence is more painful than a sore arm and a cold. I have no regrets in saying that.

It's an uncomfortable challenge for some to acknowledge that there might be other ways to think about complex issues.

The pandemic has created a mighty dogma, ironically its motto is trust the science. Anyone seriously involved with science understands the juxtaposition at play here.

You might be better off just ignoring my posts if they're painful to you.

It stands for 'follow back pro-eu', a very odd group on twitter who are happy clappy centerist dad's who never shut up but never really have an opinion.

Basically lib dems
never heard of that before. I used to vote LibDems back in my London days (the Blair years).

I'm thinking of doing an anonymous poll on vax mandates, and boosters...might ask a mod first, mind. GOT is an interesting microcosm as at first glance it appears broadly pro-policies, but there's signs some are beginning to notice logic flaws. I can imagine a few that do daren't post their thinking here.

It's a heavy subject, with genuinely life-changing implications. If Germany go for it, we're doing a Verfassungsbeschwerde, and if that gets rejected, we literally have to leave the country (assuming the punishments will be the same as Austria, and assuming we're even allowed to leave).

There's no use me preaching to the anti-policy choir, so I'm here (and on pro-policy German forums) trying to see where people are at. I have an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach that UK may also begin to consider mandatory vaccinations for all...but looks like they're waiting to see how Germany does it first.

Are you involved with science?

I’ve just travelled back from Florida today. On the way out we had to have loads of paperwork, a special app completed and additional forms all gone through with a fine tooth comb and even questioning certain things (I’ve recently had covid so had to have proof of recovery)

On the way back they didn’t care one jot, nothing checked, nothing questioned. They ask you to wear masks for anyone over 2 and we made our 3 year old wear one- nightmare but other people didn’t bother and wasnt questioned.

When we got back today my missus was complaining of a sore throat so did a test, she’s positive and caught it from over there. She feels guilty about being on a plane and positive but did the lateral flow for Raf or yesterday and was negative, just a shows how quickly it can change.

It'll be interesting what happens with a 4th dose, as it seems the government accept that the booster provides about 12 weeks protection before dropping quite sharply, so those most vulnerable who had their 3rd doses first up will be in that period kind of now, when omicron is so rampant.

I can imagine a fair few will not bother with a 4th. I can see their point really

He's doing good work on Twitter informing folk of issues with pandemic policies, and imperfections of the vaccine.

No, he isn't. Toby Young is someone who has been consistently, from the start of the pandemic, wrong. From suggesting that it would be a waste of money to "prolong" the lives of several hundred thousand mostly elderly people, to calling for the lockdown to be cancelled (in early April 2020!) to suggesting there was not going to be a second wave, to suggesting that the common cold gave you immunity to COVID (a claim for which the Telegraph was made to apologise for printing).

Then there is his belief in eugenics.

Hope she’s fine…..

No chance I’m getting a 4th if it’s a ‘booster’ though obviously I’m not in a particularly at risk category (even if my body seems to love catching the virus!)

I’ll get my third in a few weeks (was meant to be yesterday) then it’s me done. Each to their own obviously but I’m not comfortable with the idea of being vaccinated every few months. Don’t think it’s some big conspiracy, I just think there are risks with it that some love to scream and shout down without accepting some things may need to be looked into further. I’m not comfortable with the mandating in countries, with the idea that vaccines should take precedent over medicines that could actually treat the illness when people have it. I know how crap I felt for a month after my second jab. Completely drained, chest pain while exercising. Now I’ve got covid a second time I’m a bit worried it’ll be the same after my booster (as it’ll be the same 4-week spacing between having the virus and getting my jab)

Edit: If in a few months they advise that it’ll be an annual thing, and like the flu jab it’s down the individual choice, then I’d probably be more comfortable with that (for me). But like I said, each to their own and I’m not going to judge people doing it differently
