When did you catch it? As I thought anti bodies are only present in the system for 3-6 weeks after recovery. After that it’s game on again.

Nah where have you heard that? I caught covid in November 2020, did an antibody test last month and my result came back at 0.51lgg which is low end medium levels. See the link I posted a couple of pages back to BlueToff, it breaks it down well. This is 12 months later with no vaccinations. I have no idea where you’ve heard the 3-6 weeks thing. Unless the 3-6 week period is when your antibodies are at their peak level.

Oh. I read a medical report somewhere or other that was reviewing antibodies, natural immunity and re-infection.

They did highlight a number of cases where people had been re-infected at or around the 3 month period following initial infection.

I guess it must vary from person to person, in your case you seem to have a responsive immune system if you still have anti bodies after all this time.

It should be said that the biggest boost to immunity appears to be among those who have been infected and then get the vaccine as well. It also seems to matter how serious your original infection was in terms of the antibodies created. It's also worth remembering that

“Ultimately, the best defence against emergence of further variants of concern is a rapid, global, vaccination campaign—in concert with other public health measures to block transmission,” the authors concluded. “A virus that cannot transmit and infect others has no chance to mutate.”

That’s it mate. The article @Bruce Wayne posted above is really interesting and highlights it, also I’d recommend having a browse through this. Really easy to follow too, under the “understanding your results” heading there’s a useful paragraph about how factors like age, diet and general health and fitness can affect antibody response.

Thanks - I’ll give it a read ;)

The article I linked to also says that natural infection + vaccination produces the best response AND that vaccination is the only way to stop/minimise variants. I'm not sure that should be used as evidence for you NOT getting vaccinated.

Well the fact that I’ve had antibodies for over a year and have avoided catching the virus without being vaccinated is evidence that I haven’t been this plague on humanity going around spreading disease for the past year hasn’t it?

There have been just under 12 million recorded cases, so accounting for those who might have had it twice, you probably have about a 1 in 6 chance of having had it. I'm not sure that makes you a hero. It's hardly an exact science who gets infected and who doesn't.

You asked for science behind antibodies and then when the scientists said "get vaccinated, even if you've been infected" you brought out your "I'm scared of vaccines" card. Confirmation bias is confirmation bias.

You seem to be really, really annoyed that I haven’t needed a vaccine to avoid catching covid in the last 12 months. My body has produced an effective natural antibody response than a lot of people who have been vaccinated that have still managed to catch covid. I’m sorry if the science annoys you. Thanks for dropping into our conversation and making it about big bad evil nasty anti-vaxxers again though, think I’ll drop out here.

Recorded cases is completely incorrect though. It's extremely likely that there has been well over 50m cases in the UK.

The problem isn't how many are getting it , according to science the best thing for the population given it offers super immunity alongside the vaccinations.

The problem pure and simple is who isn't vaccinated. Those are the strain on the hospitals, the majority of the admissions directly related to covid are unvaccinated, here and overseas.

Can debate this that and everything but if the unvacinated all got their jabs tomorrow , the new variant has significantly reduced the theat of covid down to that of a cold. The only 'threat' now is on the shoulders of who decided the vaccine wasn't for them.
Or to put it another way 'selfish morons'.
