I think the hope is progressively each wave gets less and less dangerous and if we avoid any new variants by late spring we could easily see something that resembles a pre-covid world by the middle of next year.

I would expect another booster to be required this time in 2022 and if the government have learned any lessons then it will be issued a good few weeks before Xmas so everyone has the best chance of getting through the holidays and businesses remain open. This seems to have been rushed, the vaccines need time to bed into the system and seeing I only had mine on the 20th of December it's going to be late Jan by the time it's started to fully function and by all accounts that will be too late given how this is ripping through the population.

I don't think that's true with the booster mate - as in it will do it's job against Omicron and that's protect you from illness and, in 75% of cases, any symptoms at all (because Omicron is less severe than the other strains so far).

But yeah, the vid I posted yesterday said 50% of any cold now in the UK will be Omicron. But look, it's been here two weeks, especially in London, and hospitalisations aren't looking terrible. If you're fit and healthy, have had the vaccines, I honestly don't think this is any to worry about. But obviously it's also better to be cautious and to help keep everyone safe and I actually think people have done that this Christmas.

Its weird I've been against most of the draconian nature of restrictions and I'm expecting to be in that unvaccinated camp soon as I'm really unsure about this constant booster plan (will we try another to see if it lasts longer or will we just be feeding Pfizer's profits for years?).

But even though it'll likely affect me I'm fully behind the idea of unvaccinated lockdowns in winter. Not all year as its clearly a seasonal problem, but full population lockdown or even restrictions is ridiculous and highly unfair

What’s gonna happen in that instance when the virus is still spreading like wildfire because you and your fellow vaccinated angels are prancing around flashing vaccine passports at people while still carrying the virus? Who are you going to blame then?

Omicron isn’t hospitalising anyone though? It’s common knowledge at this point that it’s a mild illness.

300 people hospitalised with Omicron as of December 23rd, 24 deaths - in England.

So I mean it is hospitlising people. We do also know that if you're unvaccinated it's more likely to cause a less mild illness. We know that the boosters protect against any symptoms at all in 75% of people (but that is a blessing and a curse because it means a lot of people who have it will never know and can obviously spread it).

Unless you're medically exempt, there's no reason not to get a vaccine. I think people who aren't getting them are idiots. But, I don't think that should mean they need locking up in winter or not allowing in shops or anything like that.

They are still getting treated, I am just saying that when two patients need one ventilator that its the person who has actually done something to try to help that should get it.

Why should someone, whose paid taxes and NI contributions, got vaccinated and generally done what is expected be made to suffer?

First tweet I see is someone with an EU flag in their bio (just you know, fits the bill doesn't it, not saying remainers are bad, if I had my chance again I'd likely vote remain knowing what I know how of how it turned out) insisting that the country must go into lockdown. 9:40am he tweeted that.

A large percentage of anti vax also tend to be anti mask as well and they're often the first to moan about restrictions. Essentially they're unwilling to do anything.

Why are you an idiot if you feel you don’t need to be vaccinated against a virus which isn’t going to cause you any more than a headache and a chesty cough? I’ve had this virus, I know how it affects me. I also still have antibodies over a year after having it, so if I catch it again it’s going to be even milder. That’s the original strain of covid too, not omicron which is quite literally a cold. “They’re idiots” as a blanket term is just utterly brainwashed social media groupthink. I honestly thought you were better than that.

Who said that? I was saying that where people are ill with COVID and need treatment which is also needed by others, that their vaccination status should be taken into account when deciding who gets the treatment.

If you have been vaccinated, and urgently need this to save your life, why should you suffer because of someone else who CBA to do that and then fell ill with COVID?
