Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I’m not exactly thrilled at the thought of getting my 3rd jab in 6 months, but I understand why they’re doing it and I’m gonna go get it.

There does come a bit of a line at some stage though, and the more they talk of keeping shoving jabs down every few months, then the more people will probably be turned against them.

Realistically it’s going to have to be an annual thing you’d imagine - like the flu jab. And like the flu jab it should be a choice for people to have it. But obviously the older/more vulnerable you are it should be highly encouraged

That being said, if it indeed does become that, or even if not really, then surely things like testing in general settings this time last year is going to need to stop. We can’t have people isolating every year, when the populations are so vaccinated.

The footy is something I look at. This time next year, are we really thinking we should still be having games called off because a few players have tasted positive? If there’s like 4-5 rounds of vaccines already been administered across the entire country?

It’s a small example and not important in the grand scheme of things, I’m just using it as an example of something we can all see is being effected

I think the hope is progressively each wave gets less and less dangerous and if we avoid any new variants by late spring we could easily see something that resembles a pre-covid world by the middle of next year.

I would expect another booster to be required this time in 2022 and if the government have learned any lessons then it will be issued a good few weeks before Xmas so everyone has the best chance of getting through the holidays and businesses remain open. This seems to have been rushed, the vaccines need time to bed into the system and seeing I only had mine on the 20th of December it's going to be late Jan by the time it's started to fully function and by all accounts that will be too late given how this is ripping through the population.

Also, they’ve waited far too long at this point. If anything they should have done something in the two weeks leading up to Christmas, and helped keep a lid on the spread prior to everyone gathering for the holidays. Even what Scotland, Wales and NI have done seems like theatre to simply appear like they’re doing trying.
Again, I think that's partly down to their lack of will and the potential negative impact on the economy any stringent restrictions would have had.

Tight restrictions or closures before Christmas would have been not been politically and financially viable, and right now it's about saving themselves.

You could say that the reduced risk of Omicron may have added weight to their argument, but let's be honest I doubt that'll have been the primary factor.

The entertainment and hospitality sector are already on their knees, so any more would have been a death blow.

This idea of going to the anti vaxxer houses with the jabs seems pointless. Can't see it being particularly effective. The only way to make an impact is to impact their day to day life.

It's time for the politicians to come out and make it clear that all restrictions are down to one group - the unvaccinated.

Stop this segregational nonsense right now.

If you visit a vaccinated friend that has covid, you’re going to catch covid. If you visit an unvaccinated friend that doesn’t have covid, you’re not going to catch covid.

People have a right, it’s their body they can make their own decisions based on what they decide they feel is right for them.

Nobody should be forced to take something they don’t agree with.

I’m double jabbed, mainly out of necessity however you shouldn’t have a go at some one for their honest beliefs.

It's not about cases. The issue is the impact on the health service which is at the moment 90% full of unvaccinated.

Most vaccinated people aren't even worried about catching it as it's very minor if you've had a booster.

Unvaccinated people that don’t have covid or don’t require hospital treatment aren’t having an impact on the health service though? And no it isn’t 90%.

Every single person is going to catch it at some point so it doesn't matter that they don't have it right now?

Many hospitals have mentioned 80-90% unvaccinated in ICU. Including the guy who runs the department at The Royal Hospital (he mentioned it yesterday).

So why does it make a difference if your friend is vaccinated or not? Why would you be any more concerned about visiting them? You’ve accepted you’re getting it anyway.

The difference is the restrictions on everyone's life's as people aren't getting vaccinated because they've read a load of nonsense on Facebook?

If we get further restrictions in the next couple of weeks it's mainly down to the people filling up the hospital's. Not really sure how that's controversial.
