This prof is pretty deep in the weeds re the trends so find this hopeful

It'd go with the data we have from other countries. I.e. it quickly peaks.

Now it's just a case of finding out how long any hospitalisation lag is I suppose.

There's a chance it could be longer than 2 weeks of course, but that seems unlikely. It hasn't been the case in South Africa or Denmark by the looks of it. Waiting game, which is why I'm not in favour of any lockdown-like restrictions. If they'd have done it at the start of December to get totally ahead, then fine. I don't see what good it does to do it next week if, as it looks like, we're already hitting a peak of infections.

I worry that there might be an additional spike in cases, especially in the elderly, due to intergenerational mixing at Christmas but restrictions on 28th would be very “lock the barn after the horse has bolted” for that.

Possibly would reduce seeding from New Year parties but presume a lot of those would just move to private homes.

Yeah that's the thing. If venues all have to do vaccine passes etc anyway for NYE events, it's probably safer than everyone going round to each others' homes.

EDIT: And should say yes definitely a concern about another spike. THat being said, vast majority of elderly are boosted. And we know, from the official figures, that there's really, really good immunity from the boosters against any symptoms at all in a lot of people.

I see Professor lockdown is beginning to change his tune and now saying omicron is milder. I assume he’s now seen the writing on the wall and his 5000 deaths per day ain’t going to happen. Screeching U turns will be the norm from SAGE to protect their reputations over the next few days…….

Good update, goes into detail about the differences in immunity between the vaccines and natural infection

As for the 'self-titrating' he mentions 10 mins in... it could well be that we've seen that in the UK.

Had to go into Leeds again today... completely dead. Major city centre, two days before Christmas, and it was a ghost town. It's sad to see, awful for businesses and independents, but people are definitely being more cautious, probably because of the specific time of year, obviously

Christina Pagel the lockdown lover has already started to say the models are wrong purely because of people changing their behaviours. The worst case scenario models were a million miles out.

I'd watch that video I just posted as there's some quotes from Aus' CMO in there that you'll probably find interesting.

Austria and Sweden now closing their doors to us.

The noose of new restrictions draws ever tighter it appears ….

It’s England vs the world it seems
