Good news. Only question for SAGE and the gov now, is how high the case rate will peak, and whether this peak would cause more hospitalisations than NHS can manage, given the confirmation of milder incidence.

Mainly good for vaccination individuals but a difficult for governments to deal with imo

Wonder if rather than full lockdown they might consider in-between measures such as limited capacity for indoor venues and closing say nightclubs and large events? Even an 8pm curfew is better than full closures.

Yeah, very difficult one. The gov pulled the trigger on lockdowns too late on both previous occasions, so I’d suspect are wary of waiting until it’s too late.

My instinct is that lockdowns arent required this time round, but I’m far from certain about that, and glad I don’t have to make the decision, as getting it wrong either way will have bad consequences.

TBF with the old vocational training that time could be lessened
that's true, obviously the process can be sped up but it isn't just as simple as saying 'more nurses'

I think they should be paid more, I think support could be better, but still, I don't think it's a profession millions are going to want to go into right now...

This is my preferred approach given what I understand at this point.

It's a tough decision as it's difficult to see how London is performing due to some testing shortages but generally the growth appears to be a bit slower than initially anticipated. The positive rate in London isn't that high and hospitalisations are still significantly lower than last year. With London being a week or so ahead of the UK you'd think most areas will be ok until January.

I think schools being closed will help over the next two weeks too.

Also you could argue that measures should be aimed at the unvaccinated as without them hospitalisations at the moment would be very low and manageable.

I think putting a cap on venues while annoying is sensible for a month or so.

Curfews can't be a thing. Either shut places with support or keep them open.

The main issue really is still the NHS frontline staffing though.

The 7 day isolation will help, the staff who were off last week will be back this week. It's not ideal but it might be manageable, they probably shouldn't have to isolate for contacts either.
