So.
Our hospital as expected, is decimated for staff this week. With the expectation of worse to come.
Looks like everyone has been for a test, or there kids have.
So many phoned in sick or have to stay off for childcare.
I personally think in the next few days, it will reach critical point. Expecting.loads.if failed lateral flow tests,.meaning need to get tested Xmas Eve. No result till Xmas day. Xmas off.

Trust is panicking. Big time. Already an email gone out asking staff to pick up extra, and if not no on the bank, you can be rushed through the bank application process. Also closing down support, OT and education, and moving them to the wards.
Gonna be a bad one this year.

Why is that do you think. Is it because most of us have got our jabs as suggested by the NHS or could it be something else…..

It’s not an easy cop out. We have customers that we haven’t seen for nearly two years. I don’t give a crap about the loss of trade, but I do get upset because decent people are frightened to come out. Many of these do not have many years left and their quality of life is ruined by these selfish unvaccinated people…..

I don’t agree with you at all there Pete.

Both of my locals sound similar to yours, in that they had a steady number of older / retired people as regulars.

Some of the old boys were waiting outside for the doors to open, on the first day of the big lockdown and are still sat in the same seats every day.

Others came back gradually and from speaking to the others I see out and about, who haven’t come back, it’s a mixture of things, like “
I’ve got out of the habit and I’m still worried about it all “

Never once have the unvaccinated been mentioned to me.

These are the people who are more likely to read newspapers everyday, as part of their daily routine and they’ve had the best part of two years, with the press pumping Armageddon into their brains everyday.

Are you surprised they haven’t come back into the pub ???!

You can try this all you want, but you are on the wrong side of common decency to others, and will be shown to be on the wrong side of history. Just get the bleeding jabs…..

I am not a threat to anyone as long as I’m taking regular negative covid tests and isolating if they come back positive. You however, with your vaccine passport dated 3 months ago who probably never bothers to get tested, could be carrying the virus anywhere and everywhere you go. Obviously you’ll ignore this and continue to spout fascist views though.

well yes and no. Some people will not do it because of a distrust of the government (rightly or wrongly) and, as far as this government goes, trust isn't exactly a strong point is it.

It is medical people and other scientists saying we should have the jab, Boris didn’t wake up one day with a blinding flash of light and a premonition…..ffs just get the jab…..

This is really good mate. However people in their 70’s don’t really think about gym membership, nor are they really concerned about government policy. They think about staying away from harm, and for them harm is the possibility of catching Covid from those who can’t be arsed getting the jab…….
I went to see my granddad today, so tested negative before I went - I'm vaccinated and getting my booster next week, and have had COVID. I'm probably full of antibodies.

My granddad is fully vaccinated, has just had and recovered from COVID, and has then had his booster. He's 82 and got pancreatic cancer.

However, I really only tested because I've been under the weather this weekend so I've tested every day. Honestly, if I hadn't been bad the last few days I probably wouldn't have tested. My mum went with me, she's fully boosted etc, but didn't test, as she's got no symptoms.

Now, if I was asymptomatic with COVID, and went to see my granddad without testing as why would I, I'm asymptomatic, it doesn't matter if I'm vaxxed or not, I've still got it and still putting him at risk. Whereas if I was unvaxxed and tested negative, I would almost certainly put him at less risk (or the same amount of risk depending on the test result).

Obviously, viral loads etc need to be taken into account here but it can't just be as black and white as that.

You know why a lot of people won't be coming out right now Pete? It's because of all the panic and worry, caused in part by the media, in part by the government's mixed messaging from each muppet every different day giving a different answer, that people are scared to go out and catch covid and then have to isolate over Christmas.

If your talking about staff being off. Jabs make no difference. If you have the thing, or your kid does, your off. Yes you might not be sick. But that result comes back positive. Your off.
With Xmas,.loads saying sod.it I will go and get tested. I guarantee on Thursday we will have an issue. Last year was really bad and a lot of staff ended up having to work extra. No thanks, [Poor language removed] payrise. This year, our lot look like they are saying nah. I am having time off.

We have a couple who are still terrified. We had one arsehole who came in and declared that he was an anti-vaxxer and it scared the crap out of a number of our regulars, having previously had an anti-vaxxer in who managed to give half the pub Covid. Even if the government doesn’t have the balls to introduce a Covid pass, I‘m thinking of introducing it anyway…….

I'm fully jabbed, and yes I agree with your last bit, everyone should get it. I don't agree with any argument for people not getting it unless it's medical. But, I know people have the right to choose and I don't want to live in a segregated society or pin one section of blame on the unvaxxed.

Do I think it's a problem? Yes, absolutely. But they're not the whole problem. It's just all part and parcel of a lot of issues.

…and I agree with your last paragraph. I have said many times that we are being frightened. BUT the unvaccinated carry an additional risk that the vaccinated don’t ……

Not everyone who hasn't had a vaccine is anti-vax

I know of a few people who havent had it and it mainly comes down to trying to have a baby or being pregnant. There was a lot of mixed messaging at the start

And I'd back you with that Pete, in that instance. They are clearly arseholes and as a private landlord you surely do have that power?

But not every person who hasn't got the vaccine is like that. My sister is only just about to get her second jab next week. She gave birth in July, so wasn't eligible anyway when her age group was. She then caught covid from the hospital (that's why I got it). Ended up getting her first dose in September, but then was ill a few weeks ago when her second jab was booked in and they told her not to get it. Then the booster drive started and now she could only get in on the 27th.

It's obviously anecdotal I know but sure there's a lot of cases like that. Some people are just thick. Some people are lazy. Some people are convinced it's a conspiracy. It's all very sad but Omicron would be here without them and, by what the Dr who discovered it in South Africa said, has the same chance of killing an unvaccinated person as it does a vaccinated person - i.e. very very small.

Yeah and I think it's absolutely fine that pregnant women didn't jump to get jabbed.

Once it was cleared and safe, absolutely. But even then there was still understandable reluctance.
