Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Three pubs/restaurants have closed in surrounding villages over the last month. The leaseholders just cannot see a way to continue paying rent/staff with dwindling numbers of customers. These three pubs were really good places with a great atmosphere and food. They could not have been run better or more efficiently and they had spent years and lots of money getting to that position. Now three villages don’t have a pub, the staff no longer have jobs, the leaseholders are pretty well destitute. The mental strain that they have been through can only be imagined. Meanwhile everyone around has had their 3 jabs, but this incessant focus on cases as opposed to deaths is frightening people and killing an industry. When a pub closes it very rarely reopens ……
It seems less social interaction is definitely needed, but its shocking they can have on one hand behavioural scientists advising on what they can day to stop people using certain businesses, and yet not provide financial help to those businesses. Especially at their busiest times of the year.

But maybe there's a long term strategy there for them...if this is an ongoing thing in and out of lockdown, the less businesses there are, the less need help in the future. And that's even worse

Is anybody genuinely arsed about this cheese and wine nonsense?

Wouldn't be surprised if its been planted by a Tory enabler - just to divert the focus of the nation away from the real story
This hysteria over what they get up to during lockdown doesn't bother me one bit. As you say - there are real stories and these are just distractions. When have the ruling class EVER played by the same rules as the rest of us?

I had moderna and i felt pretty much fine.

the only time i (may have) noticed it was when i went for a 10k run about 45 hours later, i felt like i was going to faint 5k in but had to carry on as i was 5k away from my house, felt a bit better later on in the run. it may have just been a coincidence.

my gf felt awful for at least 24hrs tho
It took about a week before I could return to my normal training load. Not even additional EPO could help.

Are they actually going to announce restrictions on Boxing Day that will start on the 27th? Is that fair for businesses? Why don't they announce it on the 23rd or even now?

Would anything surprise you with these immoral criminals in charge?

Just seems daft to give such short notice. You'll get people travelling for nights away or travelling to maybe see other family members just after Christmas.

Odd to think that the football will be at capacity on boxing Day with 40,000+ people and the next day it might be a full lockdown.

It's more than daft - It just shows a flagrant disregard for every single individual in the country

I think a lot of folk shrug their shoulders and say what do you expect.
But if I'd been denied access to a dying relative because of the protocols at the time I'd be furious.

Lots of people will have hotels booked over the Christmas and New Year too - most carried over from last year.

It`s a really big earner.

I`ve just come back from a picture post card village in N Yorks and every single pub / hotel / restaurant are open for Christmas Day and New Years Eve.

Multiply that across the country and that`s a serious amount of money.

So, as well as the financial cost, you have staff, supply, suppliers etc too.

You say this but how many of us missed funerals, the opportunity to comfort loved ones when they were going through trauma, provide support for people shielding.

Whilst these people were having a jolly and flagrantly breaking rules.

New Year's Eve will be ruined even if they just bring in that 8pm rule. That's partly the reason why they should confirm it now, restaurants and pubs etc might be able to limit or even maybe discount sell their stock.
