To caveat, I’m very lucky and I’m just moaning about culture more than anything. I’ve had it and have it much much easier than a lot of people, particularly during the pandemic.

This time has just made me realise how poor that kind of culture and mentality is though. We’ve been tricked into thinking that kind of behaviour is normal when it really isn’t.
I interviewed for a few retail management role a few years back. One of them the area manager said the usual.. blah blah salary with 45 hour week. However a lot of managers do 60-70 hours a week as its need.. I said ok that's fine with over time. She said no, there's no over time paid. Straight away i said ok thanks, stood up and walked out. I got a really arsey answer machine message from her 5 minutes later! Kin cheek of some people!

There was another job for a leisure company management role. Basically huge amusement arcade. The 'training' was about training your staff to encourage people to stay sat at the machines gambling. Offering drinks, food etc etc.. When they said about people not being able to afford to bet but convincing them to stay playing anyway, again, I had enough. I said this is disgusting, and i walked out. The trainer chased me out to the street kicking off!!

Some businesses are utter repulsive.

Its nowhere near as politicised in Ireland as it appears to be in the UK. Most people in Ireland have been expecting restrictions and especially if you've been planning to vist family over xmas etc are just taking it easy and not bothering to go out socialising.

Is it true that over 96% of adults in Ireland are double or triple vaccinated?

Sounds about right. I was double jabbed when I got Covid about 6 weeks ago. Got offered a text to vook a booster yesyerday. Queues around the block at walk in centres.

I've seen quite a few UK based anti vaxxers using Ireland's numbers/additional measures as proof vaccines don't work.

I don't think that's the case at all, they're just extremely strict.

They cherry pick anything they can for a bit of grfting

They dont stop you getting covid, they reduce the chances though. I got a pretty mild dose because my immune system had a head start.

Use should get a pretty manageable wave with that many vaccinated. Two doses of Pfizer will stop most from getting badly ill.

Its unlikely it'll be manageable. The hospitals are battening down the hatches. Omicron has gone from 1% of the positive cases to 30% of them in less than 2 weeks. We're plataueing at about 4500 cases a day at the moment but hospital admissions and ICU numbers are starting to go down.

Its the sheer increase in infections that's gonna be the issue. We're likely to go about 10k a day and just the knock on effect of having so many people of work through illness or self isolating is gonna criple the health service and many other businesses.

Most people dont expect kids to be heading back into school in January. We've just approved vaccines for 5-11 year olds but no idea how we are going to run a vaccination program for them.

There's really no reason it won't be manageable in such a well vaccinated population. I don't why people have so little faith in the vaccines. Far too much hysteria about this - case numbers aren't the important thing.

And kids have to go to school. I can't believe this has become a controversial viewpoint, but we are letting down this generation of kids by messing around their education.
