Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Think I’ll just stick to the ‘Chinese designed the virus, deliberately leaked it in order to cause a pandemic, so the world would make vaccines, so governments could force people to have an app with their vaccine status on it, in order to control them, or track them, or have a digital ID, or make them work from home, or something…’ theory.
Occam’s Razor, basically.

There is no justification for restrictions after christmas in one of the most vaccinated societies on earth.

This is about normalising restrictions for every winter, and that is unacceptable.
I don’t get the play for normalizing restrictions every year. Surely that would also mean normalizing government assistance to affected businesses. Why not just use that money preemptively to increase the capacity of the NHS and hopefully render restrictions unnecessary?

We're into our second winter of this and we barely have any restrictions in place. What restrictions at the moment are really making a difference to your life?

It's what I expect to happen in the next 2 weeks. I think big restrictions are going to happen, either after Christmas or in early January. The media and medical advisors are pushing for it, and I can't support it.

That 5pm rule in Ireland must be a joke. How can someone be held as an expert when they come up nonsense like that. I'm fed up with these ridiculous rules and we're told to pipe down because they are experts.
It’s not that ridiculous though is it?

It’s a way of effectively closing pubs without having to actually do it.

The vast majority of pub goers will go after 5.

And the businesses have virtually no chance of being financially sustainable. What hospitality business makes most of its cash before 5?

It's totally ridiculous in my opinion. Makes zero sense on an economic or medical standpoint.

I don’t see what good any additional restrictions are going to do in 2-3 weeks time if this thing is really doubling at the rate everyone seems to think it is. It feels to me that we’re now in a place where it’s too late to try and turn the ship. This is either going to be an absolute disaster, or a huge false alarm and there doesn’t appear to be a ton of middle ground between the two.

But you are getting wound up about something that hasn't happened yet. Wait and see what the situation is then rather than saying you won't accept something that hasn't even happened

Out of interest is anything else due to change in Ireland in the short term(this weekend)? Made the mistake of booking two nights in dublin a couple of months ago. It really isn't worth the faff. Arriving Saturday and leaving Monday by ferry.
The wont kick in until Monday I think so you'll be ok - no announcements until this evening but its all been leaked to the press.

I'm just worried because all the signs are pointing in that direction. We've seen it all before, and there isn't any justification for it.

I’m not saying *I* don’t think it’s ridiculous.

But it’s not some random thing that’s been thought up. There is intent.
