It’s exactly that! I had the flu a few weeks back and I was checking in each day so not to fall behind.
This seems awfully complicated, and requiring of detailed, technical knowledge to understand.
Think I’ll just stick to the ‘Chinese designed the virus, deliberately leaked it in order to cause a pandemic, so the world would make vaccines, so governments could force people to have an app with their vaccine status on it, in order to control them, or track them, or have a digital ID, or make them work from home, or something…’ theory.
You end up in a position, where you know that if you don’t keep on top of stuff, even when sick, that it would take weeks and working in your own time to catch up.
Some of the solicitors, in the firm I worked for, very rarely took proper holidays for the same reason.
That was the “ expected “ working culture at the place.

Flu will knock you off you feet and your head wont leave the pillow or open your eyes no matter age or general health.
Most physical health professionals will suggest you've had a very nasty cold/head.
To caveat, I’m very lucky and I’m just moaning about culture more than anything. I’ve had it and have it much much easier than a lot of people, particularly during the pandemic.
This time has just made me realise how poor that kind of culture and mentality is though. We’ve been tricked into thinking that kind of behaviour is normal when it really isn’t.
Oh I 100% had a nasty cold. I just think most people will realise that and use ‘flu/cold’ fairly interchangeably.
There were days where I couldn’t get out of bed like.
5.00pm curfew from Monday on pubs and restaurants over here, set to be announced today. Omicron must be an early evening virus.

Out of interest is anything else due to change in Ireland in the short term(this weekend)? Made the mistake of booking two nights in dublin a couple of months ago. It really isn't worth the faff. Arriving Saturday and leaving Monday by ferry.

Do find the holiday situation quite annoying as someone who does flexible working. If you're not abroad people now seem to think it's reasonable to contact you during holidays.
The measures in Ireland are laughable. What pubs make enough money to cover overheads before 5pm? I'd imagine almost 0%. May as well close them.
Cinemas, theatres and sporting venues now half capacity. Sporting events must be over by 5pm.
What happens if there is a lot of injury time in a Saturday 3pm game lol
Work from home definitely makes me more likely to work on later, and you definitely get contacted by people at strange times and are expected to respond. It has its pros and cons, certainly not all positives though. Although getting 2 or 3 lie ins a week is something I've got used to in fairness.
That's not really true though. A bad reaction to flu will hit you like that but it doesn't affect everyone in the same way
There is no justification for restrictions after christmas in one of the most vaccinated societies on earth.
