Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I think he’s saying that for as prevalent as this is probably going to be, pretty much every person admitted to the hospital, for whatever reason, is going to be admitted WITH COVID. When it comes to deciding if the country needs to endure another lockdown, we need to know how many people are admitted BECAUSE of COVID.
Much more eloquently and concisely put than me ?

Because you test people and determine which is which?
But if you test for any and every symptom all the time you create a virus paranoia within the population.

Eventually every slight illness, whether it be a blocked nose, sore throat , hell every headache becomes covid.

That is not how anyone should operate. If every symptom becomes a covid symptom, then no other illness will exist, in a theoretical sense.

That is a completely false division though - for a start, people being admitted with something else can still get sick with / die from (or with complications from) COVID.

Secondly if someone has COVID they’ve still got to be treated as infectious in hospital irrespective of what they are actually sick with; they still add to the extra burden on hospital staff / resources caused by them being positive.

Most importantly of all though is the daft mess that is hospitalisations justifying lockdowns - to do that is to be a week late, making the lockdown longer and causing more damage than it needs to be.
Good points here too, though that's a collapsed health system baked in so we should be in lockdown now really

Tons of folk get admitted to hospital with X, but die from Y, whilst there. Some, these days, may be covid.

Indeed, and that’s why insisting on a with / from division is so wrong. Lots of people could be admitted with and then die from; even more admitted without and die from.

The only worthwhile figures are admitted tested positive and admitted on vents because it tells you what the impact is likely to be on that hospital.

Over 9 million tests done over the last 7 days……
Come on Pete, what we all want to know is are we winning the Testing World Cup?

Have you ever had to deal with the cause of death/register of death circus?

This isn't how diagnosis works

If all symptoms are attributed to both covid and other illness. You can't diagnose covid.

So that runny nose and headache could be a sinus infection , a cold, covid......

How do you exactly diagnose when the symptoms are the same to other coronaviruses?

From the BBC live feed:

"Although China was the first country to record cases of Covid-19 two years ago, it has only just today reach the milestone of 100,000 total cases.

According to today's official statistics, there have now been exactly 100,000 confirmed cases of the virus in the country. China has a population of 1.4bn."

That seems crazy!

I'm only a Facebook-trained medic, but in my expert opinion, it's due to shoving stuff up your nose and doing a test?
