Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

No one I know supports them, not even my parents, who are both in their 80’s.

This is another example of the governments terrible communication since day 1.

“Restrictions” means 100 different things, from ‘work from home if you can’ to ‘full lockdown, no-one leaves their home’.

Most people I know (me included) are comfortable with some level of restrictions intended to slow down the spread (work from home, wear a mask on trains) but most I know (me included) probably don’t support lockdowns and further business closures.

I'm not sure on this. They certainly don't in my social circles. I don't know 1 person who supports more restrictions.

These opinion polls you see on restrictions are a good laugh as well. Think I saw one where 30% of the public wanted schools shut. I can't believe for a second that's true but if it is, then our democracy is in one heck of a mess. I don't want to live in a country where 30% of people want schools shut lol

'understanding' why there are more restrictions may be the same as supporting in these polls.

but, yeah, polls are a load of crap really - just look at Brexit. I doubt people on the outskirts of Middlesbrough are being asked.

I didn't support business closures but if they're terrifying everyone into not visiting them, and intend to continue to do that then I'm starting to think its probably needed. It's definitely going to happen so it's pretty unfair to have this middle ground right now

I don't know anyone who is scared to go out for a meal, or get out and about etc.

If people want to choose to stay indoors then that's fine, but taking the choice away from the rest of us is definitely not the answer.

The reported quiet pubs and cancelled bookings say otherwise. Much more of this and the reason you can't go to a pub is more likely to be that they've shut down.

Seemed normal enough when I was out last Saturday tbh

I was in Liverpool last Saturday night and it definitely was not quiet.
That was before the Prime Minister went on the tele on Sunday night at short notice and terrified the life out of the nation. And before crazy "estimate" numbers were thrown around in Parliament.

If its all true, I don't get how we avoid the scenarios listed here https://inews.co.uk/news/plan-c-thr...ows-ministers-spooked-omicron-variant-1352173 -

I say "if" which betrays my (probably unacceptable) views on the numbers around this variant.

I do agree mate, but the use of the media to terrify certain sections of the public is disgusting.

For instance over the past few days, it’s been reported as gospel that 200 000 people a day have been catching the Death Star variant.

Yet when the “ daily figures “ are reported on the likes of the BBC, they’re in the 50 000 ‘s.

So, which is right ????

It’s stuff like this, that’s sending the worried well scurrying back into their bunkers and ruining businesses.

How did he “terrify the life out of the nation”? What universe are you living in where people are actually listening to this utter clown?
