@ForeverBlue92 last part of this interview here mate, touches on that issue that another poster on here suggested you might have.

Did you get your arm fixed?

Seems an absolutely mental decision by the WHO, doesn't it?

Not been the hosi yet mate - was due to go end of the month but had a letter come yesterday saying my appointments been rescheduled for middle of next month.

I just don't agree with all this idea that it will kill thousands like it's a guaranteed thing. Or the concept that this variant despite being reported as milder will do something delta wouldn't do?

The two don't go hand in hand. Infection doesn't mean death, it may have done for a long time without antibodies but it doesn't mean it now. With 120 million vaccinations in 90% of the population , why is that suddenly irrelevant? Those predicted deaths could also have 3/4 jabs in them, does that not count for something?

That's where I am coming from. It's the assumption that it will kill thousands despite the vaccine. It's the whole idea that people with 2 jabs are suddenly seen as no better off as an anti vaxxer which isn't true. So a milder version of a virus in a population vaccinated up to the nines, it may not stop people getting it which was never the case anyway, but those antibodies have to factor in. All this information is ignoring that fact , which you know deep down I'm right about.

It isn't an assumption, it is a fact. We have had thousands of deaths from this since the Summer despite most of the population being vaccinated.

Not to go down that route again but we had thousands of deaths within 28 days of a positive test in a mostly vaccinated population.

There is a difference when vaccinations are involved.

There will be a 4th dose which has been produced for the Omicron variant and that will probably end up in arms in May - July. I'm not sure whether the 5th will be pre Christmas 2022 or Spring 2023.

I would grant emergency use to those Pfizer tablets and then start getting them into mouths by Monday next week if possible too.

Good job that new vaccine will be arriving after the omicron variant has probably dominated globally and we’ve all caught it already.

Not really - as has been pointed out repeatedly, vaccinations whilst excellent as part of an overall strategy are not (and should not) be the only part with which a pandemic should be dealt with.

By doing what they've done (focusing on vaccines) the government has accepted around 100 deaths a day / 800 people on vents a day / a few thousand hospitalized with COVID / 40000 cases a day as the price of being open, the "new normal" if you will. That strategy was always morally questionable (given how many of those deaths might have been prevented) and is now at a high risk of failure with this new variant emerging anyway.

That strategy has also led to - and was always going to lead to - repeated vaccinations and eventually ends up with mandatory vaccinations. It surely needs revisiting given what is happening now.

Has anyone travelled by ferry from the UK to the Republic of Ireland? I'm just trying to figure out what test results they need. They say a self administrated test would not be acceptable and neither is an NHS test, so I'm confused as to where I can get the test done.

Every country in Europe is about to experience a similar peak. The decision to open up in the summer has not caused the new variant.

Ireland for example have been much stricter but they're about to be impacted similarly anyway.

The current vaccines still do offer protection against omicron. Just less protection than with previous variants. Experts suspect that the vaccinations are contributing to the mild symptoms of omicron so far. And also it has already been shown in studies that indidences are lower among those who have been boosted.

the point being that every country in Europe didn't go what we went through between August and November

Before the new variant it was looking like all other EU nations were about to have much bigger winter peaks which would have resulted in deaths higher than our numbers. This might still be the case as they have less natural immunity, time will tell.
