Essentially his theory on why Omicron is so transmissible is, that the R0 for the original wild Covid strain was 3, Delta is 6, and they think Omicron is 4-6.
But the difference between Delta and Omicron is that Delta was running out of people to infect so Rt was around 1 (effective transmission rate).

Since Omicron can infect maybe up to approx 3x the number of people due to the suggested immune escape it’s Rt is much higher while the R0 is about the same, or even lower.

So in a totally naive population, they would act pretty much the same but in today’s circumstances, Omicron is way more transmissible.

So the theory proposed is it’s not R0 = 24. It’s just that it’s got a bigger choice of people.

He also suggests that Delta and Omicron are different enough so they could co-exist. Great…

This fellow is very smart and what he says makes lots of sense (given he studies viral sequence evolution for a living, so to speak).

According to the health sec though, they are 20% of covid cases. So how does that work? You can't really just guess if you have actual confirmed data?

Maybe I am thinking wrong on the subject , happy for someone to put me right. Just going by what he said.

Less than half of UK testing labs have the technology to distinguish between Covid and Omicron.

Also, if Omicron is spreading more rapidly but causing less serious illness then it’s more likely carriers of it could be asymptomatic and would not get a test, so it would be less likely to show up in the confirmed data.

They aren’t saying we need four. Their health ministry has just come out and said they aren’t pushing ahead with a fourth dose at the moment.

They have said that one will likely be needed in the future, but that doesn’t really conflict with current UK advice.

It makes sense that 4 offers more protection than 3. You're only boosting your protection against the virus. I doubt we'll require 4 until Summer 2022.

In time I would hope we end up in a situation like flu vaccination or this virus render itself pretty useless.
Israel was on it's fourth before we had decided third. It was only a matter of time.
Still very early days for a virus.

I am under no illusion. We will have twice a year jabs for several years.
When the southern hemisphere goes into winter (our summer) and it all kicks off down there with a new variant, it will be get your next jab so you can have your summer holidays.

Appreciate the sentiment but if you want to leave the house next year you're not done
