Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

My wife is a nurse and has to go into work every day fully decked out in gown, mask, gloves, the whole shabang. Not for a few minutes here and there either. Do you remember when we all stood and clapped healthcare workers for the sacrifices they were making for us? I figure the minuscule things they're asking of us to ease the load on them so that they can do all of the other amazing things we ask of them is not much of a trade to make. Sadly, many can't be arsed and continue to abuse our healthcare system.
I'm a nurse, and I can tell you, the vast majority where I work have had enough. Masks around chins, ignoring so social distancing etc. When we have to take patients to a general hospital, the staff there are generally the same. Let's not rose tint NHS staff. I work in it. The absolute vast majority I work with will just flat out ignore any further restrictions.

It's time to move on, or we will be stuck in this cycle for ever.
The vast majority of people are not abusing anything. They just want to live their life. 2 years life has been restricted. Jab those that want the jab, sack those that won't be jabbed and let's move on. I wish somebody had the balls in government to say we are just going to get on with life now. But I feel we are not actually protecting anything. The government is seeing how far people can be pushed. What's the limits.

You didn’t even look at the link. The table is of clinical trials of ivermectin in COVID….the exact evidence you requested.

The only reason ivermectin is still being “evaluated” is because some people won’t accept the evidence that already exists.
Of course i followed your link. In your OP you correctly advised to take all the clinical trials published as a whole, and not to 'cherry pick'
to suit the arguement one way or the other. Yet, that is what exactly what CDC report does. THAT is why they haven't reached a conclusion
about IVM, not "because some people won’t accept the evidence that already exists"

I have a friend who works at a hospital, where he often visits nurses for the job he has, from stories he posts sometimes on IG, loads of nurses are being spotted wearing their masks on their chins, indeed. They are human too. Most of them never wore mask in their life till 2020, except the ones who treat ebola etc patients, and obv the surgery nurses. Others never knew the very thing. Now they are wearing it for 10+ hours everyday for 21 months. Mad.

Well I think as it stands the booster spacing is recommended at 5 months after your second jab. There's talk that could come down. I had my second jab September 1st as it had to be pushed back after I got COVID. Will be interesting to see how far they're suddenly willing to knock this down...

The new vaccine won't take that long at all, it's not a 'new' vaccine. It's just tweaked to tackle the specific variant, it's already in trials according to Moderna.
Seems like this might be about that

The reaction today is to get everyone to have their booster asap.

But they don't know if that will help against the new variant?

Again this is why a minority of people question the whole vaccination thing. Go and get your 3rd vaccination but also it may not be enough so you are already earmarked for another. Vaccine after vaccine over and over again for something that will not go away.

Never mind anti vaxxers, people with them just won't bother anymore if they keep getting told to get them.

Vaccine effectiveness doesn't drop from 100% to 0%. The vaccine will still be effective to an extent, they are trying to ensure everyone's in the best place possible. A 10-20% drop off when you've had a booster is much more manageable than a 20% drop off when you've had 2 doses months ago.

Finally someone speaking sense!

I think there will be chaos if there is another lockdown. The vaccines appear to be doing their job so lockdowns appear to only stop the unvaccinated from catching anything. Like many, I imagine, I’m getting a little fed up giving up my freedom for the benefit of the stupid…just get the bleeding vaccine….

We don’t know yet, and need to wait for more data to confirm, but the initial data is encouraging that vaccines are still effective.
Eighty-seven percent of all patients admitted to hospital with Covid-19 in Tshwane are unvaccinated.

What we do know is that the booster is very effective against Delta which is currently the strain you are most likely to catch In the UK.
