If that was all true (pinch of salt given the source of it)
Then this new mask policy would be a massive over reaction.
In fact it would mean the government would not want to spread a variant that is no danger to the 50 million vaccinated people. We would just keep the old one that has worse symptoms even in vaccinated people , rather than a shorter milder version?
But pinch of salt, given the amount of [Poor language removed] on that person's Twitter name
M&S is boss. Can shop at M&S and not be posh. Waitrose is a tinpot M&S, but is weirdly for posher people.

I'm no virologist so I might be wide of the mark here but I'd imagine the issue to be thus...If you introduce a new variant to a country that has hardy any restrictions you are giving that variant the chance to mutate into something much more dangerous.

Yes they can but if it happens elsewhere least you have a bit of data on them. If it happens here you are already 2 weeks behind, it could be out there and spreading like wildfire. Also like I say the UK restrictions are a lot less than other countries increasing those chances.
This is a bit like everything nowadays, people will moan like anything if something gets in and then necessitates another lockdown, but are in uproar that they might have to change behaviour to a lesser degree to prevent that. Now this variant may come to nothing but what if it does.

Thinking about booking a trip for April, but worried about flights potentially getting cancelled if this blows up as bad as they are warning.
Anyone had trouble getting their money back from cancelled flights or did you change date?
Is there anyway I can cancel if the flight is still on but the destination is in lockdown?

So if its all true...everyone has to wear a mask on the bus or in a shop for a week whilst it's confirmed that the new variant isn't a massive danger.

Omicron variant found in NT

NT Health Minister Natasha Fyles said a man who flew from Johannesburg, South Africa to Darwin on November 25 had been found to have the Omicron variant of COVID-19, the first case of the strain in the Northern Territory.
Ms Fyles said the man had gone straight into quarantine at The Centre for National Resilience * upon arriving in the country.
*Theres a facility whose name could well cover a multitude of sins
