Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Many people double vaccinated are ending up in ICU and dying because of COVID, the vaccines should only be ever part of the armoury, they were never "The Game Changer" they were just an important part in suppressing this virus.

The move away from face masks in England and the general malaise in tackling transmission in Schools and further education will kill people unnecessarily, whether vaccinated or not.

Everyone is aware the vaccine only reduces deaths by roughly around 95-97%. That does help massively reduce the likelihood of death.

I appreciate that you're a forever lockdown supporter but if we're being realistic the vaccine is the main weapon to fight this thing.

The messaging in the UK regarding masks has been pretty poor to say the least. A lot of the more modern research shows that n95 type masks make a big difference whereas cloth and surgical masks (which people often reused multiple times) can still allow tranmission if you're around the infected individual for upwards of 15 minutes. People wear balaclavas around their mouths and scarfs for example.

First day back at school for my lad today.
He’s not had to do the tests his brother has in senior school either.

Picked him up and it’s an utter free for all now.
No one way system etc, hardly anyone wearing masks.

It’s only going one way this.

You say this, but in my lads primary / junior school, which is quite big, with a lot of kids from different ethnic and socio economic backgrounds, they’ve not had one single case of a kid catching it since the start of all this.

Teachers and staff, yes, but the kids no.

The parents still aren’t allowed in the school without a prior appointment and unless the parents are having prolonged close contact, the chances of them catching outside have got to be negligible ?

Where as my other lads senior school was the complete opposite - years getting sent home, kids catching it etc.

Anyone else still working from home? Been working from home throughout, and we were told we would be back in at least a few days a week when restrictions lifted in July. Then they said they are still waiting for guidance from the government but I can’t find anything on the internet except that all businesses have to do a risk assessment. Managers in our place just say “waiting to hear from my manager.” Anyone else not been back in or given a reason why?
Same mate, we were expected to go back a few days a week in the summer, but told now we won't be while cases remain high, so can't see it being anytime soon.

Feels like they are just kicking the can down the road at the minute.

Today at the Primary school was an eye opener for me.
Same set up as yours by sounds of it social and economical wise too.

I genuinely felt uncomfortable.

I guess the weather hasn’t helped as it’s been scorching hot down here today as well, and people probably just wanted to get home ASAP.

I don’t even know the rules on isolation anymore for the kids this term either.
You can’t have no controls in place and then be sending classes home surely ?

I teach and apart from the twice weekly testing everything else is out the window. Virtually every other school I have knowledge of is the same.

Wish I knew this was definitely the case before I cancelled my summer holiday. I was concerned I might have to isolate and miss the start of the year.

My understanding of the senior school rules, is that apart from the testing twice weekly, if a kid displays symptoms in school, they get sent home and tested - staying at home if positive.

Anyone who’s been in contact with them is advised to get a test, that’s it. No more whole groups going home.

Primary / Junior schools don’t seem to have anything in place for their kids ?

Positive cases in Reading up 50% in the days after the festival it’s just said on the news.

That’s pretty high especially as you were supposed to show negative test to get onto the site.

It was bound to happen eventually.

An interesting post about Reading.

What are the actual numbers though? Our death rate doubled the other week. To 2.

The headline fails to mention this is a “last resort” but we all know the government likes to plant the seeds of something in advance. Would be a monumental failure if we have to return to a lockdown. Although I’m sure some unvaccinated 18 year old who had a birthday party will be blamed.

Thing is though, looking at the Covid map, cases in England are stable/falling in most areas. Scotland and Wales have a few hot spots, and it appears that the important bits, admissions and deaths, are not all that. Unless its you that is, but we can only look at this country wide.

That said, schools/unis opening, autumn/winter weather, and without this booster jab that seems to be not anywhere yet, who knows?

Misrepresented stories like this, have become the life blood for some of the press.

Scaring people sells and gets clicks.
