Problem is the hospitals will be at crisis point in winter. They were struggling quite a few times in winters before covid even existed.

Will be interesting to see what happens.

we must be getting close to the point where Covid patients are treated the same as anyone else.

Also you don't have to isolate anymore if you have symptoms, only if you test positive on a PCR test.

That gives the game away

They'll struggle every winter as no amount of vaccines and boosters is going to get rid of covid, and it seems anything beyond what they had to deal with before is a lockdown and destroying business situation

I think now might be the time to increase NHS capacity (over time of course- its too late for this winter, I think long lockdowns are inevitable) and face the reality that it is required, and that focusing on just covid as if its possible to eliminate it is a complete fantasy.

I agree. I think there will be measures this winter. I don't think nightclubs will be open in December. I do think they might keep restaurants etc open with table service though.

Its just a shame that people will end up in ICU because they can't be bothered to take the vaccine. The pressure on NHS would be massively reduced if people got vaccinated.

good luck getting that though the HOC on a regular basis, the emergency powers end this month.

People are acting like lockdowns are an easy thing to do, there is a reason why it's been a 1 in a century thing

My younger brother is anti vax and my elderly mum has pleaded with him to get vaccinated, as she`s convinced he`s going to catch it and it`ll kill him, as he`s right in one the target groups.

He is steadfast in his views, as his partner and there is nothing anyone can do or say to change his mind.

There`s nothing you can do with these people mate, except cross your fingers and hope for the best.

That's but part of the puzzle now with these waiting lists, a bad flu season because they don't know what strain to use for the vaccine and also any missed diagnoses from lockdowns presenting at an advanced stage. I'm not saying you're wrong but that's what I mean - I feel there's this country wide tunnel vision on just vaccination, which seemingly isn't actually going to be enough on its own. Yet all we've heard is vaccination, not "we're going to put more money into the NHS and build capacity so we can stay open over winter". Which should've been looked at months ago

They'll get those emergency powers voted back through- political suicide for anyone who votes against them ahead of winter.

I hope so, but only if they give financial assistance again for dropping capacity. It might end up better for the businesses to be shut down for a bit with support if they'll just end up making a loss and carry the risk of buying stock and then getting shut down on a moment's notice

I'm hoping they keep all this al fresco dining stuff in place, with heaters it could make all the difference for some of these businesses when the inevitable restrictions come back in

Thanks for your kind words.
I'm just utterly exasperated at not being able to be there for her in hour of need at the hospital.
Family and friends not being able to visit those in hospital/nursing homes hasn’t got as much coverage as a lot of Covid related issues but it has sadly had a huge impact on patients and those that care for them.

Has put an additional burden on healthcare staff too as some of the emotional support that a family would have provided has needed to come from the nursing team.

Hope you wife is able to leave hospital soon x

Many people double vaccinated are ending up in ICU and dying because of COVID, the vaccines should only be ever part of the armoury, they were never "The Game Changer" they were just an important part in suppressing this virus.

The move away from face masks in England and the general malaise in tackling transmission in Schools and further education will kill people unnecessarily, whether vaccinated or not.

Anyone else still working from home? Been working from home throughout, and we were told we would be back in at least a few days a week when restrictions lifted in July. Then they said they are still waiting for guidance from the government but I can’t find anything on the internet except that all businesses have to do a risk assessment. Managers in our place just say “waiting to hear from my manager.” Anyone else not been back in or given a reason why?
