Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

I've a horrible feeling we're going to do the same over here next week. Dept of Education here are using pre delta variant rates of infection in their modelling

They had to change the system as the last system was a joke. Schools regularly had 2 or 3 year groups off at a time. Now that the strategy is to live with the virus, the new policy does make a lot more sense.

It makes more sense if the strategy is to infect eveyone

What`s the answer ?

Even with the bubble system, my eldest lad missed around 3 mths of his school last year, by continually getting sent home.

He`s now goes into his GCSE year, one of the most important school years of his life and one will which shape his future.

Do we carry on with the bubble system and keep sending kids home willy nilly ( even the ones who`ve had it, like my lad ) and potentially ruin their futures or do we accept it`s here to stay and test the kids a couple of times a week, then send the kids who test positive home.

I know you`re going to say that it`s too late by then, as it`ll be everywhere, but this thing isn`t going to ever go away and it`s about living with it and managing it now.

Even if they vaccinate the kids, there`s going to be a lot of kids whose parents won`t let them get vaccinated ( for whatever reason )

The majority of my mates really seem to be in two minds about allowing their kids to be vaccinated and from talking to people, that seems to be the norm. Even though the majority can`t really give a proper answer why.

Or, you could always take your kids out of school and home school them - no thanks.

Vaccination - and decent ventilation

Lying about the reality isnt the answer to any question. It'll make it worse.

You can't really ventilate schools overnight. Schools have windows and doors open at the moment as much as possible.

Do primary school kids need vaccinating urgently? The risk to them is very low, pretty much most experts agree on that.

The problem is (as was said repeatedly last year and this) that if the disease is roaming around schools then it will inevitably get to parents and grandparents too.

I don’t think schools should close, but we really need to prevent the spread in them even more than we do in workplaces and public areas.

They are reducing the spread by regular testing and isolation of positive cases. They're just not sending 30 kids home for 2 weeks because 1 tested positive any more. All of the remaining kids continue to get tested regularly.

Parents and grandparents who should be vaccinated?

Are UK schools using homemade filters like this?

Anecdotally seems quite common here in US
