Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Yep, the only way Australia/NZ come out of this looking fantastic is if their vaccination program accelerates and covers their population before a giant wave hits them.

...So Aus/NZ haven't beat COVID, they've merely delayed it, and they deserve congratulations for it... If they bring a vaccination program in properly as well that is.
Not too sure about that. As of just now, the Australian Vaccination Program is of the...'sorry, no jam today, but hey, shedloads of jam tomorrow - honest' variety.
85million phizer vaccs 'On the way'*
*after Christmas...probably.
The Delta is near tipping point in Greater Sydney. Mainly in the U45s in 'poorer' areas (the sort that can't work from home and have to go to work to get paid) who either haven't (CBA??) had or now can't get AZ-ed.
The worry is that they then might take it back home to their family group
Melbourne might just have it under control
Brisbane - not much to speak of...and you can usually tell by the tone of the message if we're being prepped for a lockdown - and we're not.

Australia; 'won' the Covid war? - rapidly losing the vaccination peace...especially from the politicians perspective, heads, top heads, may roll, not guaranteed obvs, voters are short memories and fickle, but the current numbers are poor for the PM...but hey Johnson seems to skate over it so far, similar situation, lack of credible and vocal opposition.

NZ wont open borders until population fully vaccinated estimated to be by end of October more likely December. Only using pfizer and when it opens up i would say it wont be a full opening up. most likely negative test still required to entre ect ect. (Sure some tourist wont bother but most people who visit nz come for a lot longer due to the location and time to fly here)

The border controls are strict enough here that it seems very unlikely covid will get in and cause large wave before the vacation program we are withouth an outbreak now since January. And we are no longer open to Australians.

Nz economy is currently booming with 3.3% inflation the highest in a long time, its not a country reliant on tourism or an international hub.

i do agree covid will entre nz, it will cause panic and there will be a lot of infections at some point it is inevitable. If the vaccine does it job and keeps serious illness and deaths at bay its job done. We also seem to have got a good handle on test and trace (so much easier chasing 1 or 3 infections then thousands)
How much of that 3.3% is house prices though?

There were probably some undetected cases prior to early Jan 2020 but to trust that you were one of those, and that any immunity had lasted this long with something you believe is a biological weapon, seems stupid gamble

Kind of gives away his BS by explicitly stating “this episode is far more challenging”. In other words, he had a seasonal bug 18 months ago, and now has COVID. If his body had already battled, and defeated COVID, wouldn’t he expect to have an easier go of it with subsequent infections?

To be scrupulously fair it is a different variant than the strain around back in Jan 2020 and we don’t know how long natural immunity lasts in any case - Manaus in Brazil got hit pretty bad a few months after a large % of their population were recorded as having antibodies from prior infection for instance.

But his father-in-law died of Covid complications in December and the CDC has been pretty clear that vaccination is needed even for those that have been previously infected for the best protection so I have limited sympathy if he rolled the dice and didn’t get vaccinated.

Oh there were cases long before January 2020 Legs. There's no way it couldn't have been circulating in the population for months before.

That being said I fully agree with you that if people are thinking they have automatic immunity then that's dead weird.

Fuming, literally should be leaving to go to work right now and got a message off my mum to tell me she’s coming home because my cousin and her girlfriend have both tested positive as we were all at a house party for her older sister on Saturday

I'm on day 7 after first symptoms. Feel shattered, no energy, very fatigued.... Like a semi light headed feeling. No headaches or temps.

Had a call off someone offering to drop off an oximeter to keep an eye on oxygen sats. She said even if you aren't breathless you could have underlying infection that causes lower oxygen. Something I wasn't aware of.

She said even if symptoms have dropped off don't do anything strenuous. Stay hydrated and rest etc.
