Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

The schools one is the biggest area that we absolutely slept on. Insane that it wasn't done earlier.

Well frankly I'm not sure it's actually gonna make a massive difference considering yesterday I just saw massive groups of school kids standing outside shops and in parks at 3ish and then again at 7.

What are the majority going to do for the next six months?

Not all will stay inside all day unless there's soldiers patrolling the streets and that's not going to happen (maybe in the major cities it might).

Sorry, but they were in lockdown mode - on the 8th they were only allowing restaurants etc to stay open until I believe 6pm or 7pm etc.

There's gonna be a lot of deaths. It's going to happen. We should have prepared earlier. We just have to hope the NHS can handle the strain.

Hopefully it can over the long run.
Given that we had Italy as "advanced warning" of how bad things would get, it's mental that we've basically stayed in line with what they did.

The fact that Plan A was give it to everyone has been the biggest failing.

I still can see their logic in the sense that they thought they could beat it that way and the NHS could handle it.

But that would only have come close to working if we'd been prepping for months (probably longer than even the initial reports of the outbreak in January) and even then that might not have been enough.

We had China mate. The whole of Europe and the west should have been ready.

They weren't.

I can't stand this government on the whole but frankly they're just a small part of a massive problem – caused by inaction from every government in Europe (and obviously initially in China probably hiding the numbers).

There's a reason we were the ONLY country in the world to think that route was a good idea.

I get that China might not have been seen as 1) a source of reliable data and 2) a model for how to deal with it, as they are a much more authoritarian country... but we had South Korea who have done an immensely impressive job of dealing with it.

Do you need any help mate, like someone getting groceries or that? Am sure that there would be willing volunteers to help if you need any so you can stay inside with your wife.
She is pretty much bed bound though I have just bought her a wheel chair but it is not warm enough at the moment to take her out.
I have the groceries covered as I slip out in short bursts. To be honest I don't need much as she only feeds through a tube in her stomach which comes direct in liquid form.
Thanks for the offer though and the kind words

Fair point if that’s the motivation and spirit of it. I just hope with all these numbers flying about, we don’t become dehumanised and over exposed to the human tragedy.

Maybe I’m being a bit over sensitive, I just find what’s happening in Italy very upsetting, I just pray the UK doesn’t go the same way.

Completely agree with you mate, don't want it to just become numbers, every one of those numbers leaves a grieving family, it's tragic

The stuff happening in Italy scares the [Poor language removed] out of me.
My misses has terminal cancer and was told she has 6 months to live 6 months ago but she is holding up well but this virus would kill her outright.
As her only carer I worry that if l was to get it what would happen to her
Jesus Christ mate. Sending all my love and prayers to you and your wife right now. Need anything let me know!

The offer is there of you need anything mate.
I'm down south but my lad is up north and he has access to groceries etc and he can box you off.

Yeah I get where the lads are coming from and perhaps over reacted in my comment, it’s the human aspect I see, but as the lads say if they assist to startle some perhaps worthwhile posting them, I didn’t think of that tbh,

Over time though maybe we should be careful, there could come a time when someone belonging to someone on here might be one of those stats, hopefully not.

Im prob a bit over sensitive I saw the Italy numbers before logging in here and the the death stats were the first thing I saw.

Total agree with this.

I‘m not supposed to mod Current Affairs, but I’m not going to let us get distasteful in here. Folks are going to be scared, hurting through personal loss and/or financial stress.

We take care of each other.
