Deaths will be around 200 or so by August. Time will tell how high it will go. Do they still count everything as a covid death if you test positive? My great aunt died of dementia last year but they counted it as COVID as she caught it 3 days before she died. She'd already been in the hospital for about 20 days at that point.

Yeah, i think that is the case still.

Unfortunately, and I know this as my sister has just given birth, pregnant women weren't able to get the jab at first.

they now can, but understandably, a lot will be cautious.

I don't know what they can do other than what they have though. You can't use pregnant people as test subjects.
Yes you can. It is called informed consent.

Often in the first 6-8 weeks many women don't know they are pregnant. This is where early human data often comes from for any vaccine or medication.
Additionally in the US there were pregnant healthcare workers that took the vaccine when it became available to healthcare workers.

Well, obviously with their consent, but when AZ and pfizer were initially rolled out in the UK, that wasn't the case - there had been very little testing on pregnant women (for obvious reasons).

My sister is getting her first dose next week. By the time she could have got it here, she was just about due, and didn't want to be having a vaccine on top of that.

Once again we hear scaremongering information from the Glummer half of Glum and Glummer. Data has context and if you end up in hospital after falling down the stairs for example and you had Covid anyway, then that’s recorded as a Covid hospitalisation.

The hospital figures are not all Covid matters and this needs to be addressed, instead it’s being recorded as Covid and scaring people.

Even if they all are Covid, then they will not rise to a level we will be locked down again. Even if they do, another lockdown will not happen. The Government know full well that not very many people will comply to it as they have had a guts full of it, are fed up as it is with mental health on the plunge, domestic violence going up and they also know full well we just have to get on with our lives now.

They know our minds are focused on July 19th. They announced this despite numbers rising, so it’s clear what they are thinking although Boris’s “Bodies pile high” statement is sickening and never been denied by Boris himself, just a spokesman which to me isn’t an authentic denial.

Also, the economy has taken a huge bashing as it has and the government don’t want that being harmed again.

If the worse comes along, they’ll forecast this and get the jabs ramped up all in good time.

I know it sounds selfish, but let’s get out there any time from next week and enjoy ourselves, it’s been too long and let’s start making plans for our futures. I’m planning Iceland in late August, a trip to Liverpool to see friends when I return and then plan Christmas. I will however still wear a mask wherever I go but cannot wait for drinks at the bar to return. Table service is getting quite a “rotter” to quote Basil Fawlty while he’s fawning up to “Lord Melbury”.

I think it’s really wrong they will still post the figures after the 19th. Let’s just stop reporting on Covid for now and bring it back up when we seriously need to know something MSM. Still, knowing the way their sick minds go, they’ll still go on. Apparently it’s “in the public interest” to keep reporting the figures, more like the interest of the scaremongering MSM.

RIP to all those who have died of this horrible disease, alongside my condolences to their families. Flu is killing people 5-10 times worse and we don’t get thrown into our domestic prisons for that while streaming Netflix and repeats of A Place in the Sun.

This thread should be locked on the 19th, then reopened IF it’s an issue worth discussing again. Just an opinion and I respect the opinions of those who disagree. I’m going to keep out of this thread for now and will make a thread about songs that never made the top 40, but are so well known, just to keep our thoughts away from this.

Let’s look forward but be cautious

It's not wrong as the government need to held accountable for their decisions. I see where you are coming from though, but I think when the government are making these bold decisions that there needs to be transparency.

Yeah, i think that is the case still.

Difficult isn't it because if covid is infecting say 5% of the community in some areas then 5% of all deaths would be covid positive if you get what I mean?

I read an article a while ago and I'm sure it said something like 80% of positive child hospitalisations for covid was for unrelated matters like broken legs etc. If you go to hospital with a broken bone and you test positive you count as a covid admission which doesn't seem right.

At some point in the past year and a bit "scaremongering" really should have become a word people could be arrested for uttering in connection with this virus.

Its killed nearly 130000 people in the UK, hospitalized hundreds of thousands, caused hundreds of billions of pounds worth of economic damage and pretty effectively ruined the past eighteen months. Please, please, please start to take it seriously instead of these yeah but back to normal anyway posts.

Giving condolences to the people who've died, yet advocating getting back to normal and allowing thousands more to have the same fate, often without choice.

Hmm.

Thousands sounds horrendous but there needs to be an acceptable level. Obviously over 100,000 is far from acceptable but if it was 5000 over the next 12 months that has to be deemed acceptable as thats somewhere around 1% of deaths per year.

I do think the tories would probably accept somewhere around 20,000-25,000 deaths over the next 12 months which might be a bit too high.

If the overall normal death rate remained largely normal, as in numbers and age ranges, that will be absolutely acceptable imo.

2020 there were 695,000 deaths so roughly 15% higher than 2019 which was about 605k, 2018 was about 616,000. 2021 will be high as the first few months were awful.

You would imagine if they could bring it towards 2018/19 levels that would be sufficient.

It is very difficult as, although the ”Covid positive and died due to injuries sustained in a car crash” is a pretty clear “died with Covid rather than because of it” case, a cancer patient who also died with a positive test isn’t in as clear cut as Covid could well have added extra complications that stopped their recovery.

And you also have the instances where someone never did get Covid but because their cancer surgery was delayed due to overwhelmed hospitals their cancer metastasized and killed them.

Also for hospital capacity someone with a broken leg but Covid positive impacts bed availability as you can’t put them on a ward with other non Covid patients.

The problem with this is that you (and the government) are assuming that we could contain it at a particular level, which is an impossibility - you either have it under control (and suffer few deaths) or you don't (and suffer many more deaths).

Aiming for a sweet spot in the middle where you don't have to deal with the negatives of containment or the disease is doomed to failure.
