Current Affairs Coronavirus Thread - Serious stuff !!!

Small village pub, everyone knows everyone. The staff will do a check and put them on the list, once off, then check others as they arrive. Anyone outside, and we have a big outside area, is not an issue. There are a number of pubs around us that have recently had to close for ten days to do a deep clean because staff got Covid. Hopefully we’ll be fine before getting past the 19th…..

Bit harsh on the early 30s and younger who are still waiting for the second jab. But I see the logic. I had my first jab several weeks ago now but have to wait until mid August for the second.

Pubs and entertainment venues are going to have to be set up for it come autumn or they won't have insurance - that's my dad's theory anyway, and he ran places for 40 years.

This all relates to the covid pass thing, obviously. If your place isn't geared up for checks for people (I guess it'd have to be QR'd for a lot of places on the door @peteblue ?) then insurance companies won't pay out if they end up having to shut for COVID-related reasons. Like near Pete, one of our locals had to shut for 2 weeks recently because of a COVID outbreak among their staff.

It's crap but it's the way it's gonna be to get people vaccinated. Two-tier society ultimately, but the idiots who haven't got vaccinated - barring ones with genuine concerns like pregnancy etc - will need to get it done.

On that note, have today moved my second dose to mid-August, but I'm planning to go to a walk-in by the end of this month (so 3-6 weeks after my first dose). Just want to check the recommendations for what is actually the best gap for Pfizer. They tested 3 weeks initially but real-world evidence is suggesting 6-8 is best for long-term protection. I wanna be dosed up asap, which at least avoids isolation unless I actually have the thing.

Do have a link or something for this? i might rebook mine. There are so many different things out there. Mine is currently 12 weeks later.

So you don't think the virus is just going to sweep unchecked through vast swathes of the population until people either perish or recover?
No idea, wasn't passing an opinion on the percentage of people who will catch it, was simply highlighting this lie: "They don't until everybody catches [it] and either lives or dies"

We all rightfully point out, condemn (and often laugh at) nutjob anti-vax misinformation on here, but that's just as bad. Let's stick to facts, not easily disprovable fibs.

Catched some of the press conference yesterday and it seemed very odd to me. On one hand you have the scientists telling us we're in a third wave and deaths will likely be 200-400 at its peak. "We need to proceed carefully" . Then on the other hand we have Johnson saying all rules are being swapped for guidance next week just so that we can make the most of the summer months.

He's basically suggesting rules and restrictions will be back in September. I get the short term logic in that but surely we should be looking to rid ourselves of this long term now? Or at least coming to terms with living with some kind of restrictions long term rather than this ever ending yoyo on restrictions?

Sorry for being hyperbolic - It just feels that way at the moment

I don't trust this government to make a single decision in the best interest of the plebs

Just go on 'manage booking' - you'll need your booking ref. for your second jab to log in and then you can just check availability - it should come up with ones from 8 weeks from your first dose

Fair play. I don't trust them either, but I also don't envy them in the slightest. Every option available to them is awful - it's merely a case of trying to choose the least apocalyptic option available to them.

You can rebook via the app, my second was due this week but i got mine a few weeks back by rebooking the test.

What are the walk in centres like where you are, Moomin?

They've been really prominent around my way. Four of my mates all got their first doses ahead of time by going to walk-ins.

It's definitely my go-to for this second, but just getting the date shifted forward to 8 weeks rather than 12 just so I can be booked in in case anything changes with the walk-ins.

Sorry, i meant to 6-8 weeks evidence! I've found a few bits now.

I have a wedding to go to on 20 Aug and my 2nd vaccine is on the 24 Aug. think it would be sensible to have it before, maybe. although i'd like to think everyone will take a test beforehand.

Oh sorry, yeah well there was a yet-to-be peer reviewed thing a few weeks ago about 8 weeks.

But it seems a lot of other European countries have gone with 6 too and had good results with Pfizer?

I'd be buzzing to get it earlier, but don't want to rush into it after 3 weeks if generally it'd be better to just hold off for another 3-4 and have more protection in the long run...

I'm not going away any time soon so no rush on that front. Would just be handy to know I didn't have to isolate unless i had it/showed symptoms etc
