Face mask doesn't help stop people getting the virus.

They do help.
They don’t prevent entirely and most people don’t use them correctly.
but there is a reason that health care practitioners wear them when treating infectious diseases.

Well, Italy have been in lockdown for two weeks already.

My worry is it's keeping people cooped up in confined spaces who already have it and them spreading it to others which is making it worse in that scenario - given it seems a lot of elderly people in Italy live with younger relatives.

I'm sure we'll start to see a drop off but at the moment it's clear that Italy at least are still rising to a peak.

Think about though, it's common sense really.

They're in contact with people for 13 or 14 extra hours a day, that they'd normally be in contact with for a few hours a day ( plus sleep ). The extra risk of them passing the virus onto other householders is minimal compared to them going outside for a walk or some simple socialising.

If they hadn't locked down, it would be even worse over there.
