Hospitalisations are probably what we should be looking at. If vaccines stop serious illness then they are doing their job. They won't just completely remove the virus from society.
To be honest they probably need to stop producing that daily dashboard - or at least the cases part of it

The media needs to start scaling down it's daily constant coverage about it as well

100%, especially if this starts to go wrong again.

they are already holding back a fair bit of AZ data, particularly for the venerable under 40s who had the AZ vaccine. there are a lot of people under 40 refusing to have the second AZ jab and it doesn't really surprise me.

When it comes to data they need to be transparent about it and not hide it.

The key for me is reducing the amount of testing. Every other country is doing 10% (or even significantly less) of our quantity of tests.

The hospitalisations and deaths have exceeded every expectation. Sage and Imperial were predicting hundreds/thousands of deaths per day at this point on various models.

On another point I can't see people continuing to wear masks in South Liverpool. I've never been to a local supermarket without seeing various people without masks throughout the pandemic.

What will reducing the amount of testing achieve?

These models you mention by Sage and Imperial, are they based on no vaccinations by any chance? Do you have a link to this modelling??

A lot of our tests aren’t that relevant though; as said before they are screening tests given at hospitals, care homes etc as a condition of entry. In terms of tests carried out to actually trace and suppress outbreaks, we probably are doing at best no more than other European countries and probably less.

The surge testing in various parts of the North West aren't targeting outbreaks? Arguably, we should go back to similar testing to April 2020 - focused on hospitals, care homes and the highly vulnerable.

I'm sure Germany is in the top 3 destinations for a summer holiday for most of us.

Maybe not but it is certainly positive for me, I have been informed that it is the same the other way and I haven't seen my family in the UK since Christmas 2019 so if it stays the same then by the time I am fully vaccinated (end of August) I can go back and visit from Germany.

Surge testing by definition doesn’t trace and suppress outbreaks; it only happens when an outbreak takes place.

Its pretty difficult to surge test before you identify an outbreak though?

You regularly mention a better test and trace system but I still don't really understand what system you want to see implemented.
